Only 2 more days at the early registration rate!

Now is the time to get off the fence and get your registration in...

Got a surprise package from Dunlop Tire today. Probably 200 stickers, and 200 fliers (which also have stickers in them) although not a huge door prize they took notice of us, which is a good thing when a huge manufacture does this. Maybe in later years we can score some tires, one can dream right!!!!

I seem to recall somewhere in this thread that Butler Maps will be at the event as a sponsor. Will they have maps for sale on-site?

EDIT: Or maybe it was at the RMAR event?

Paid and In.

It sounds like a lot of the usual suspects will be there.
Maybe we will get in some mud rides like the first RMAR.

Question RMAR Driving Question....from Calif. is it better to take..

freeway 40 and go North on hwy 160 at Flagstaff to Silverton or is it better to take 40 to Gallup and go North on hwy 491? I'll be towing a 34' heavy Toy Hauler... so I'd like the easier towing option...Thanks

I've done them both and the Gallup I-40 to 491 route would be my choice hauling a trailer. 89 north of Flagstaff is single lane and can get very busy. At Cortez you can take either 145 towards Telluride or 160 to Durango. The 160 route will have a bit more climbing and twisties to it and will be shorter but either way you will be hauling through some serious mountains. I've done it with my fairly light 26 ft trailer and had no problems but YMMV. Diesel is MUCH cheaper in Durango or Cortez than it is around Silverton. Hope this helps. Drive safe!

Basic maps provided...but you're better off getting some more detailed ones. There will be plenty of people who at least claim to know where their going to pick a partner to go ride with. If you get too lost, just remember it's the guy who got you lost is the first to be eaten.

sorry for the dumb questions!

It really depends on what you want to ride.

The jeep trails around camp, Cinnamon, Engineer, Stoney, Imogene, Black Bear, Ophir are a blast on the 640 (my perspective) and a little dull on the 525. But the views are incredible no matter what you ride! I'm not familiar with the single track in Silverton. A short ride will get you above Purgatory or Rico where the exc would shine on the trails and the 640 would be a handful (again, my perspective). A license plate on the 450 would be nice.

Campsites? If you don't want to camp at the RMAR site. There are a few national forest campgrounds in the area. If memory serves me the South Mineral campground is off hwy550 just out of town, not far. There's another campground NW of town on the way to Animas Forks at Eureka, kind of far though. There are also several private campgrounds in Silverton and the camping along the Animas River NW of town is nice and free.

Hope this helps, see ya there!
