Bear Mountain lookout, Between Custer, SD and Hill City, SD

There is a main gravel road that gets there, but the back trail is much more fun.

Hat Point Lookout

Hat Point Lookout in Oregon overlooks Hells Canyon and the Snake River.

The tower is made of wood and is 80 feet tall. It sits at 7000 ft and the Snake River below is at 1250 ft.

The view to the south along Grizzly Ridge.

Here is my bike at the Blue Rock state park in Ohio just outside of Duncan Falls. This tower is one of the tallest in Ohio at 100 feet and was constructed in 1937.

View from the parking lot.

View of my Strom in the parking lot.

Down the stairs.

View from the top.

Duncan Peak Lookout is about 28 miles east of the town of Foresthill, atop Little Bald Mountain on the Tahoe
National Forest, at an elevation of 7,182 ft. From its ocation you can see magnificent views, such as French Meadows, the Royal Gorge of the American River, and the Sierra crest.....stolen from a USFS handout

I think this lookout has some of the best views in the Tahoe National forest, second only to Saddleback, well worth a visit.

Drake Peak Lookout

Drake Peak Lookout is East of Lakeview, Oregon. At 8222' you're basically above timberline. What makes this lookout a great destination is that it's a rental for $40+ a night.

Slate Mountain

On slate mountain they have removed the lookout tower leaving only the steel structures that used to anchor it.
And as is fate these days, the high ground is littered with repeater stations.

Look out! inside and out

Looking at the observation section from through the steel plated door of the bedroom.

Riders observe the tracks for tunnel fires caused by steam locomotives, but find none.

Damn. Everything is more awesome out west. I live on the wrong coast. Still, we have some cool towers. This is the Suches Tower, they've since blocked it off.

Dags taking a load off.

Somewhere in South GA on the way to Appalachicola.

Lucky Strike enjoying the rickety tower. That is a nervous smile.
