My wife will bake you all the cookies you want and I will listen to some whining if you show me some of that top secret Baja shit .

But first, before any cookies are baked, you got to tell me the NSFW stories from Medellin.

Why the fuck do you guys care? It doesnt matter if i buy a GS and ride it to work, or ride it around the world? I (and anyone) can do whatever they want with their bike, and good for them to just get out and ride.

Also, it was a TV show! would you not do a RTW trip if i gave you a bike and paid you to do it? of course you would. So why are you bitching that these just are posers and its all fake? The show is fun to watch and it inspires people to do RTW trips.

More people do RTW trips after the two shows came out than before. BMW has earned their money back 10fold from sponsoring these trips. Many middle aged white men have bought a 1200GS because they saw these shows, but how/why is this a bad thing?

well put.... fake or not LWR inspired me to ride thru mongolia and magadan!

hell if it wasn't for the "posers" in LWR i would have never EVER found advrider....

as for the REAL story behind KTM - (keep in mind this is personal opinion and some articles i've read) KTM was the new guy on the block with the 950.... KTM couldn't risk something happening and having a bad name so early on.... BMW on the other hand had been to the rodeo a couple times.

I praise KTM for denying the LWR crew. both charley and ewan would have beaten the shit outta new bikes and POSSIBLY! (don't get your panties in a twist here!!!) could have suffered mechanical breakdowns that could have caused setbacks to the LWR crew. setbacks that would be difficult for a small company to do whereas BMW could have helped quicker simply due to their size. (remember most BMW shops in europe sell cars and bikes under one roof)

now with that being said, KTM now has a better name because of it. the GS is the big pig that charley and ewan complained about but KTM emerged then as a "ready to race" name. this mindset is still true to this day. most GS riders are middle aged white guys who riden fairly slow and don't tempt too much offroad. there are exceptions. the ktm then being the racey fast hot rod offroad bike.

now please... quit fighting over random ass bullshit over which bike is superior!!!

just my two cents.....

I knew this was going to be good when it got resurrected.

At least its better than "what is the best oil for my 9X0?"

What year was the LWR ridden in? If the 950's were brand new, and we know they had some teething problems, what would Charlie and Ewan done without the OC for advice? In those frist 2 years, fuel pumps, water pumps, clutch slaves, slave pushrods etc were a problem that were being learned as people went. A LWR trip would not be a good place to find out how much casting sand you had in your engine cooling system on international TV.

Easy answer....

KTM didn't want to have to put up with Charlie's whining on the Road of Bones.

you'd be crying too if you did all those miles to get to the road of bones!!! HELL even if you started in Kyubeme, $100 says you'd be whining also...

like someone else mentioned... its easy for others to poke fun at ewan and charlie... they did it! assistance or not! how many people on this forum can say that...?

I agree with most that this thread should die... but I F-IN HATE!!!!!!!!! improper slander on someone given by people who have never been there and done the same thing....
