Today 14H19, Jorge Martinez Boero, rider from Argentina, is dead .
Accident happens 2 km away from the finish line (special)
First aid arrived quickly (less than 5 minutes) but was not able to keep him back to life
RIP

Not good. He suffered a heart attack after his fall and they were unable to revive him.
Last year he fell of a cliff and was stranded for 8 hours before being rescued.
His father passed away in a rally accident in 2004.
So far since the rally history, 57 people have died. 20 of them being spectators.
Even the creator of the race, Thierry Sabine, perished in a helicopter accident in 1986, with 4 others.

I now have a more realistic understanding of this race.

Wish I was there anyway.

Take care guys.

Welcome to South America amigo. Its the same right across the continent. This morning we woke up to heavy fog...till I went outside. It was smoke for all the fireworks!

Cuidado with the driving in Peru, especially Lima, don't look them in the eye, and go for the gap with balls or you will end up going backwards.

All three riders are in at the binvouac, no major issues and everyone is in good spirits. Long laisson is the only complaints. We had a good drive, about 800 km and along the way we waited for Jonah after the special and then followed him for a while on the road but couldn't keep up. Bikes have a 120 km per hour limit and our truck has a 110. We had the bivy setup before Ned and Jonah got in. Just had dinner with Ned, mechanics are hard at it, riders doing roadbooks. A great first day for RPA
