Too many

It's a 2002 exc, everything had been rebuilt or replaced except splitting the cases,
I guess it was bound to happen at some point...

I am gonna stick around, taking pictures and servicing bikes,
plus heading out to mid day service parks (you get a half hour
each day on the second liaison), so I hope to get busy with the
camera which was impossible to do while being a competitor

Attrition rate is at 20% so far, even newer bikes are suffering,
yesterday Filosa's rxv550 blew up (motor)

More to come

Tuesday's Prologue

I have no idea why the truck came, tracks were tight enough for the cars as it was,
they must have used reverse gear more than 3rd

sorry for the race, but Iread you got it the right way

I see my thrree friends are doing well enough, especially Massimo in the top ten with a very standard DRZ400S

Yes, I saw massimo at the end yesterday, we had a small chat, he is a great guy and doing well,
he had a difficult day but started again this morning,
I am having a lazy morning and going to the service park
in the middle of the stage, hopefully not too much work will
be needed. Most navi towers are coming loose because
of the very rocky course

thanks GZ!

more photos huh? Here's me today, taking Francesco Barraja's 690RR for a little spin around the bivvy

Yesterday and today were spent providing support for my friends Vassilis and Timi who remained in the race, I am
overjoyed that provisional results show that Vassilis has won the overall!

I was waiting for him at the end of today's special, he actually passed the finish crashing and sliding past the time keeper!
I think he was so determined today, he must have got back about 20 minutes on a 100km special over Adrianno Groppo who was leading up until day 4

Timi also finished today after banging up her ankle yesterday, we had to help her onto the bike this morning... she has more determination than most guys I have seen at this rally and I am proud of her

Yesterday we chased the riders around the southern part of the island (Steira), and our support car actually broke down because of.... I shit you not... the gearbox! Again!!!

I am now officially known as Mr. GearboX Destroyer

Nikos and Costas, the two other racers who had pulled out and were providing support with me made their way back to the bivvy in the back of the Bulgarian A2 team support van, I had to do the same in the back of Palaska's support van
(Palaskas is the guy with the orange Pajero who raced this year's Africa Eco Race)

Too many stories to tell, I will try my best in the following days, along with lots of pictures... right now I am going to sleep for an hour and then go to the award ceremony, which most probably turn into a huge party

Everybody is safe, smiling, and already making plans for Serres Rally in late August

Before it all started going south

Day one photo of Brodovitch and I.
I pulled out as well. Bike was not set up well for this type of terrain flat tires/wrong tires no team etc. etc. Lots of lessons learned, the big one being don't attempt this with out some sort of support. Events just added up and there I was face down in my room passed out. I still had fun and plan on linking up with la porte du desert team for the Albania Rally.
Down but not defeated.

Hey Glenn, it was good to catch up! Bummed about you pulling out, but in my book you did admirably on your first multi-day event.

Support will always be an issue, my pals and I raced the first 3 days with no support but each other, hence the hectic schedule of finishing a day, washing & checking the bike, rushing to dinner, replacing air filters, topping up radiator fluid & engine oil, checking bolts & bits, grabbing the roadbook, marking it, rushing to the rider's briefing, back to the bike, loading the roadbook for the next day, back to the room, prepping gear for next day (water bladder, food, tools, etc)...

Sleep 6 hours at best, get up, rush to breakfast, toilet break, run down to bivvy, pick up bike, mark liaison target times onto paper, get to the start, and have ten minutes at most before leaving for the day

Rinse wash repeat

Ah, rally life... I already miss it

Video of the prologue and day 2, yours truly at 5:20
