I'm really liking my Yamaha EPH-100 IEMs that I bought for my Sena. I think they are very good for the price.

Is there life after Etymotic ER6i? What to get next

I have worn Etymotic ER6i's for the past 10 years it seems. Right now my right filter is plugged so I can't really hear out of it anymore. As you know the ER6i is no longer in production which is a real bummer. Not sure if I should try and find some replacement filters as I am out of my old supply and some new ear tips or if I should just try another type of ear bud that is currently in production.. Is there anything out there in the under $100 price range that is motorcycle helmet friendly like the ER6i's have been. So is there life after the Etymotic ER6i?

I'm using Etymotic ER4. They are a little long but they work fine with my helmet. Expensive but should last many, many years. The cord is replaceable through Etymotic.

Quadruple yikes! You audiophiles have such a bizarre concept of what 'bargain' means.

I got a pair too and am perfectly happy with them. Yes, the tips that come on it are terrible. I put my Big Gray Cone-Shaped tips from my 6s on there. Very happy and fits under my Shoei.

That's what I did. I hope they can stay in, and not work their way loose...

Because they protrude a little more I can get a finger up underneath my full-face helmet to secure them if they become un-sealed.

I grossed out a buddy when he caught me putting each earbud into my mouth before sticking them in my ears. "Can't get it in there dry, takes a little spit," I said. He'll never speak to me again, I fear.

I'll take em. PM sent

Last ones?

I just ponied up $119 for the only set of er6i's on eBay tonight. "mint" condition, but likely used with new buds. Maybe my last pair ever.

My 5 year old pair of ER6i's finally died . They were my favorites for riding and working out. The right one went dead one day on a ride, so I figured that the filter was clogged although I just changed it out 9 months ago. So I ordered up a new pack of filters but no joy - it's dead. If anyone needs a pack of 5 ER6i filters, let me know via PM.

I guess I'll be trying the HF5's. I have been using my Shure 535's in the meantime but they are overkill for a helmet (and I don't want to ruin them).

Update: I bought two new pairs of headphones to try - Etymotic ER-4P and HF-5.

First up - ER-4P These sound great but a a really bad choice for under helmet use because the cables stick out at an odd angle which makes everything stick out about 1/2" beyond my ear. When I put the helmet over, the cable gets all fouled up. Putts mentioned this in his Vendor thread but of course I didn't listen. These will be my new air travel headphones.

Second up - HF-5

I've only worn them once on the bike (for an all day ride with numerous stops) and a couple of times at the gym. So far, so good. They sound a bit better than the ER6i's (not way better but it is noticeable) and they isolate just as well. They do stick out a bit more but they still easily fit under my helmet. They are also easier to grab to remove than the 6i's. I am using Comply foamies with them and that's an improvement since the Complys didn't fit on the ER-6is very well. Overall, I like them.
