Off Topic, sort of.............performed a test using Lucas Gas Treatment in my Nissan Frontier.........same gas station, same route (work) for 2-3 weeks.........outside weather not much different in those 2-3 weeks..........speeds not over 60 mph. (I know, lots of variables come into play here) Lucas gave me 1 more mpg over non-treated gas. Crunched the numbers and it would not pay for itself in the long run. Wasted $$$ = lesson learned.

i use sta-bil ethanol treatment marine formula for 1.4 mpg increase. one bottle $6.50 treats 100 us gals. so, its cost effective.

Still not nearly as well as with straight gas tho... ![]() I do however take some with me on trips just because you can't easily find straight gas on the road....

I've found the key to mpg is in the right foot and wrist, respectively.

DL1000 increase MPG
it seems a little off topic to talk about dyno runs on a mpg thread. try doing a mpg compar-o. as per at lease as good as the O.P.. which was done over a 1100 mile period. your results may surprise you. as far as ethanol blend fuel is concerned, i got better mpg with the higher octane fuel long before they started ethanol blend fuel in my area of the country, which was in 2010. g-luck and ride safe.

Just got back from a another fantastic 227 miles, of commuting. Average speed 75mph, GPS confirmed.
4.51 gallons of gas. 87 octane.

I've taken a slightly different
I've taken a slightly different approach to this whole DL 1000 fuel mileage problem.
I pump 93 into my tank every time the little fuel light flashes at me, just like I did on my last bike. Then I ride until the light goes off again, then I fill up again. Now, I know for a fact that my CAR returns about 2 MPG's more with 93......but that's my car. If I ever start worrying or even arguing about 1 MPG? I'll trade my bike in on a Bergman scooter. |

Yeah, but which fuel light? You got your 1 solid bar and flashing fuel pump. Then your flashing bar and flashing fuel pump. ![]() FWIW, when the bar starts flashing, I ususally pay my tab because it is time to go home.

That's the weirdest looking Vstrom Piston I've seen yet.

Looks like a classic case of detonation to me.....
Pre-ignition burnes holes in the middle as a rule.

Did the OP even test the alcohol content of the fuel used in his original test?
Somehow I doubt it, and it is certainly useless information without. |
