The Great Plains are home for me, as well. They are quiet, open spaces:

Nice Shots!
I will have to obtain that book. When I was a child I lived in Moorhead MN, right across the Red River from Fargo ND. Can't get much more Great Plains than that. The nations breadbasket... Not only did I live there, but also learned to ride motorcycles there beginning at age 8. And got my first bike there. So much wide open space! It was a great place to be a kid on a bike. A friend and I could and did ride for literally 50+ miles all on back roads, farms roads - quite an exciting feat when that age. And oh man the wind! Right at the old 45 degree angle for miles and miles.
Thanks for pulling the ghosts up. |

Nice!
Tallboy - I've lived in Kansas for almost 40 years, and I can't place the roads in pics 3 and 4 above. Those are KS roads?

Eastern New Mexico
I think Eastern New Mexico is still considered to be on the Western edge of the Great Plains. The mountains on the horizon at right edge of the photo (by the telephone pole) are approx 80 miles away. Lot's of clear sky on the plains.
My photo skills obviously need some practice. ![]() Living in Nebraska most of my life, I really appreciate the Nebraska photos. The beauty is more subtle on the plains than in the mountains, but it can be just as appealing. |

I love the riding the "Great Plains" and seeing the land, buildings and the history that is out there.

From my daughter's (MonkeysAsh) first road trip. The eastern edge of the great plains. You're never alone early in the morning. You want history? Thats Wounded Knee. Barely more than an intersection. Not so touristy to lose touch of what it represents. Strong medicine is still there.
