No One Knows Nothing...

Well, I guess we need a place to post pics and share the experience.

Yesterday... yes yesterday, hightest and I figured our stars aligned well enough to plan a trip. You see, we both have next week off. Fair enough, a week off to plan a 1400 mile / 20.5 hour away, 1000 mile small bike trip to South Dakota. More than enough time to figure things out.

You see, we had planned to do the IDBDR some time this summer, but... life has a way of f'in things up. So "F" life, plan around it. Regardless we knew we were going somewhere this summer, to ride something, with someone.

So, "No One Knows Nothing." is an appropriate name for this trip.

The plan... trailer small bikes from SW Pennsylvania to Somewhere around Rapid City South Dakota and get on the DAKAL... the Dakota Adventure Loop.

With some help from Sleddog (read A LOT OF HELP), a plan was in the making.

First things first, throw out some bait and lure some buds in.

bronciii bit pretty hard when I told him the "plan". Which in actuality weren't much of a plan. More of an idea. We'll figure out the rest later. Right? So bronciii is in. Who else?

Another from the Pittsburgh contingent, racerron, thought (for whatever reason) that it sounded like fun. Not a bad catch for a few hours of fishing.

So, what's in store? Who in the hell knows. But I'm sure if it's anything like last years "4 Buds and 2 BDRs", it'll be a blast.

Stay tuned...

Searched a bit for a place to park the rig for a few days. Train Station in town say "If your on the train..." High School Superintendent say, there is a shared lot across the street, shouldn't be a problem. Black Hills Trailside Park Resort southwest of town says he's got some dirt for "Oh I don't know, maybe $30?"

I did see a couple breweries northeast of town.

And for hightest, there's even a couple Harley shops!

Or any other side trips / out and backs from the route and back on.

The area around Nemo is popular with the guys that like ST. I would say by the time you get through the loop,. you'll have picked out some places to go back to. Don't underestimate the quality of riding you're in for!

In Camp Crook at the station/store that is closed. Go West to Capitol Rock. It's only a few miles but a nice ride up to it. There is also a primitive campground there. N45.59050 W104.11867

From Cement Ridge the DakAL takes you through Spearfish Canyon, a beautiful Scenic Byway....full of cages! Look at your GPS maps. I like to take a gravel/dirt road west of Spearfish canyon, to the ghost town of Tinton, N44.37761 W104.04915 then continue on into Spearfish via the gravel. Google Potato Creek Johnnie. He "found" the largest gold nugget ever recorded! You'll go by his last residence. You' should see people panning for gold along Potato Creek, looking for another huge nugget!

Sounds good Sleddog, looks like were going to have very scenic ride in your back yard.
What type of temperatures should we have in that area, day time highs and night time lows?

Forecast for the Black Hills region looks typical. Highs in the mid to upper 70's lows in the 50's. Biggest chance of precip looks to be scattered T'storms about mid week. Elevation will change the highs, lows & precip accordingly.

And all of this is subject to change depending on which source you look at for the forecast

Looks to be a fine week for a ride.....
