Noted and that was my immediate impression at the time, however unable to match Stoners performance on the same steed in the public arena given his comment that he's (Stoner) not trying hard enough has surely been humbling for Rossi.
That said I'd say he has provided us all with entertainment and fodder for dialogue during his carrer.

I saw this when it happened as I do follow Casey and then the Soup report came out.. Most people burn bridges after they leave not before they even get there
He is one hell of a talent but he may have social issues..

Maybe someone should sit him down and point out some home truths:

1. You have the greatest job in the world. Try and look like you enjoy it from time to time.

2. Those people that you brush past outside your pit door actually pay your wages. Sign more than two autographs, you knob.

3. Most of what you whinge about and attribute to MotoGP is actually the work of MSMA (i.e. Honda - the people you work for).

4. You COULD have been the GOAT, and you threw it away. In time, this will eat you up...

I too met him 3 or 4 times here in Australia through the years when he was on 125's and 250's. Had some long conversations with him.

Too few titles, the GOAT award must arguably go to Rossi
Multiples in all classes and categories etc etc.
With due respect to Ago and his titles (unquestionably talented motorcycle racer, handsome dude and one time movie star etc)
The disparity between his MV Agusta's (3 & 4 cylinder versions) and the opposition of the time had to be seen to be believed.
Only got harder for him when Yamaha went to 4 cylinder 2 strokes.

So for mine I'd cast my GOAT vote to Rossi

However CS could have raced for another 7 years and still be the age that Vale is now.
How many more races could he have won?

Could have, should have, would have...

fact is, he decided to quit, and if he sticks to his decision, which I think he will, he´s now done with MotoGP. Motivation is also a very important part in winning at the highest level, and he clearly has not got enough of it any more.

I do respect his decision, a lot actually, as my first baby boy is just about the same age as Casey´s daughter. Suddenly makes you think in a different way about a lot of things. Maybe becoming a dad was not decisive for Stoner, but nevertheless I´m glad for his family. Racing is a dangerous thing to do for a living, and he´s probably made enough money to support them.

I agree. These are very different personalities from the rest of us. They live right on an edge (M. Simoncelli went past it)- that most mortals never even get a glimpse of.

To accept the big negatives (danger, travel, time away...) that come with the money and fame, a rider needs to be very good and REALLY want it. To just be good but lose the passion is a limbo that further money and fame cannot fix.

Think of any job where you are paid a good amount but have come to really hate the work. How long before you abandon ship?
