I was just going to ask the same question. Even more visible in the tail section exhaust.

It might be some kind of tunable system. Years ago I was tuning a big horsepower (being relative) and the guy had "torque bolts" in it, his words. He would insert bolts of varying diameters into the open pipes at and different locations and it would really change the torque of the engine.
Obviously Ducati is not sophisticated enough to do that, so they have some kind of honeycomb system on their bikes to change the power output?

you all have seen flames licking out the pipes of race cars and bikes, the honey comb may keep any over-run fuel flames from burning back up into the exhaust, flames will not travel back thru a screen, but, ofcourse i could be wrong as this is not a very fine "screen" however with the type control by computer misfiring traction control they may want to prevent an "explosion" in the exhaust system from causing it any damage.
but it is proly to keep out low flying birds,or gravel and 1/4 drive sockets

Wow that put an unexpected lump in my throat.

Looks like that photo of VR is in the same corner, is that right? Must be getting comfortable with the new ride pretty quick to get things that sideways this early! Must have the TC backed off to "real man".

Normal transmission has been resumed. Good to see Rossi closer, still over a second off the pace.

I don't think 1.2 secs makes him any closer.

Stoner is relentless.

And about 7 seconds off the pace will see Edwards finish a race about 2 MINUTES behind Stoner

It may be time for Carmelo to start negotiating for some of last year's 800's with bigger fuel tanks for the the CRT teams.
