Dang, I was really hoping Honda would have stepped up their game on this one. Oh well, I'm still going to remain positive until I hear more about this bike, and its offroadability. If it can handle single track as well as the WR250r, and handle highway all the same, Honda will have a potential customer.

just found this tread today so I only read about 50% (work got in the way).

I like this bike it is a great option for me since like somebody else said, I am over 30, married with a child, and with a phd on the making I have little money left for a wr250 that I can't even reach!! I was thinking tw200-klx250 but now this is a better option.

I hope to see it soon at my local dealer. So does anybody about maintenance cost? when is a 4-5 gallon going to be available? lol! ok too early I guess

I'll be test riding one of them back to back with a NC700X next Monday. I'll put up my impressions on it here. I'm in pretty much the same boat as you, only a step down the academic ladder :)

Is this bike going to be stocked at dealerships or will it be pretty much order only. I really want to see one in person.

They should be a regular showroom item after the mad rush is over.

I truly wish Honda would come out with a 450 version of this bike. Perhaps next year.

the bike has been out for a year in japan and was markleted as a dirt "styled" street bike, not a dirtbike. Much like many of our beloved adv bikes, wannabe image rider bikes.

Our local dealer has presold all of them at msrp he's recieveing on his 1st shipment. If that holds true across the country the manufacturing outlay wil be satisfied and the model will be considered a success, Most of us are not the demographic this bike was made for.

Get a good used bike for half the cost.
New bikes are for people with lots of extra cash.

(I got a tw200 with 250 miles on it for $900.00 and a 5000 mile dr650 for $1500.00)

I could have 4 or 5 bikes for what any new 250 costs....and sell them all for more then I paid.

that will be cool!! i saw the NC700X at Laguna Seca Moto Gp, an it is something i could use and love, Put a link here about your ride impressions!

NJ man, thanks for the advice, I had have only 4 bikes, 3 motorcycles and 1 scooter I bough them all new, at first it was beacuase I knew nothing about how to keep them running so I figure a new 125 cc for a begginers bike, I rode that for 4 years until a guy hit me and it was taken by the insurance people. I have a KLR650 as my BIG bike, it is a 2005 with just over 37 K miles, and I think I want to keep it until it dies or burns down. I do not buy bikes thinking of there resale value since I intend to keep them as long as I can (for ever?). But if I see a $1000 tw, xt sure I will go and see it (given that I have the money in my pocket).

I had a 250 Tornado that I was force to sell and ever since I have looking for something like it, so this might be it! Numbers say nothing to me (except the 2.0 gallons, but not a problem) so I will wait until the local dealers have them (San Diego CA area) if not then December in the IM show.

ALso let me had I don't see my self 10-30 feet in the air jumping, just going to work, fighting the TOPES, and mega holes that could be on the way...and why not a weekend trip tp visit some relatives here and there so no need to bring camping gear, just a bag pack and tank bag?

Then who will buy NEW?? NJ Brett, you spend more time here than you ride.... (as do I... well off-road at least) Market strength depends on new buyers. Case in point, the wr250r, it has not been popular on the dealer floor due to price. But finding a good one used right now is hard, because they are RARE now on the used market and everyone commands top dollar..... completely different from 3 years ago. Essentially, the real value has been set on the WRr... That is why they are so scarce in the used market now, and rare on showroom floors. Everyone doubts the capabilities of a 250 on market value (as did I) until they have tried the WRr. NJ Brett, you can pound sand so far as I am concerned! Any dual sport in the WI market is way overpriced.. (for morons, that means there are few street legal bikes that can go on trails) NJ Brett, you are a blow hard

Do you work at a dealers?

With a little wait, I never had a problem getting a good deal on any good used bike.
And a lot (not all) of the new bikes I did not like for long and lost money on.

2005 Bonneville, 2500 miles, many extra's, $5000.00, list was $7400.00, sold a year later for $5000.00.
2006 DR650, 5000 miles, $1500.00, sold a year later for $1750.00.
2008 TW200, 250 miles, $900.00, sold after 6 months for $2000.00 with 800 miles on it.

I also got a new 2009 TU250 for $3000.00, leftover, list was $4000.00 plus fee's.

Hey, I am glad people buy new bikes for list price and sell them quickly for 70 to 50% of that list price!
