How are the newer Maicos?

I was curious how the newer Maicos compare to the other two strokes of today. I know the older ones were really good. In a test, they raced one of the old Maico 490's agaist a newer(early/mid 2000) ktm and the motors were even. The maico, they thought, might even be faster(straight line, better through all ranges, mid, low, high end) with a tune up. I was curious how the newer bikes compared to the competitors if the older ones had that good of a motor. How is their 250 vs other modern 250s? How's their 320 vs a ktm 300? How is their 500/620/685 vs a service honda 500af/kx500? I like the fact they still make two strokes. Bigger ones at that. The parts that go into their biikes seem pretty good( Brembo, WP, Keihn, etc.) Any info would be great.

It seems as though the rest of you are as far in the dark as I am. I was hoping some of the European guys might know. I guess I will have to keep trying elsewhere. Thanks anyway.

I had no idea that they were still in business..

Do you have a link to some of those newer models?

I believe they reformed as a British company in 2010. The new for 2011 was the announcement the engine and frame would be made in England, in the tradition of BSA, Triumph, AJS and Matchless. Interesting in they were talking about a billet machined clutch and gears. Sounds like they are going the route of being a complete exotic. The most recent info I could find looks to be from the May 2011 issue of MXAction and they stated the 2011 models would be released in September, but they aren't on the web site. I would be wondering if they have run into some financial problems getting the new line out the door.

They are still updating the news section of their website so I am hoping that means they are still working on getting the bikes released.

A German shop still produces some Maicos.

They even make a 700cc 2T one

No idea how they perform though...
