Having had a bit of time to consider the seat unit - I think I'm gonna go for the Zed-Butt as it's much neater (& lighter)

Just need to sort out a decent method of fitting the seat unit - so it's easy to get on & off

Nothing stopping me sorting out the engine ................ now the Xmas break is here

Nice to see you making some progress ! I will agree with you on the seat, the latter one looks much cleaner on the bike.

The good thing is, your damn motor can't read. If it says oil on the container, it's pretty much OK to dump in there.... ED.

Great thread, really liking the way the bikes coming together, keep up the good work I'll be following this one with interest :) It's always good to see another Harris owner :) Here's mine, a Magnum 2, although she does need a rebuild now as getting tatty, commuting on it was probably not the best idea ;) plus want to add the new fairing I've got etc. So will probably do a rebuild thread like yours in the near future :)

and an action shot from the TT ;)

Don't know if that provides a little inspiration or motivation, but, hope so...keep up the good work

Got the seat unit sorted - made a base with some alloy plate then stuck it together with a few 6mm bolts & some P38 FiberGlass filler.

Made a real SIMPLE, LIGHT & EASY method of removing it..... I used a bucket handle  as the wire is some sort of spring steel, and it passes thru' the seat-base alloy into some lugs on the seat rail.... and is a "spring-fit" !!!! The nose has a tang that fits under the frame, beneath the tank.

The wire is then clipped onto the seat fixing nuts ......

Next was the front muddy. It arrived today so I spent lunchtime (an extra long one) trimming it up and fitting it.....

Looking good now - ready to pack for painting .... but I'm still undecided what colours......

The combo for TANK - SEAT - MUDDY will probably be BLACK & GREEN... but just not sure what to paint in what colour ?

It's looking good.

I always had a soft spot for the Harris Dukes

Thats nice Rob - but you get more of a noticable improvement switching a Zed lump into a decent frame

Been a while - but patience is a virtue. One of the Z1OC (www.z1ownersclub.co.uk) members painted it for me - cheerz HUTCHY lad

As usual, my crap photo's don't do it justice but I'm well pleezed.... ace job. Just need to get the tank decals on that another Z1OC member kindly made up for me.... that'll be fun -not !

Next is to get on and clean the Z1R motor up - no excuses now its a bit warmer. Then some wiring - not too difficult. Then I'll have to jump through a few hoops to get it registered at the typically bureaucratic DVLA the UK insist on running

Took a deep breath & put the decals on......

As the decals were quite small (subtle) I just whacked them on dry - no fear

I did think about running another HARRIS decal along the top/back of the seat unit - but decided to keep it real simples ..... Less is More
