I see a taper. I found a pic of the JD needle. Look at it, no taper and then it just stops. Bizarre.

No taper per se, just for the seat. KLX has a taper.

+1. I tried jets and needles and the only difference was it used more gas. Re-set the carb back to stock (except the 22 cent mod) and am happy with the result - that was 35k miles ago.

I missed this reply somehow. Thanks, I ordered a 148 and 150 main, and a 40 pilot. Thanks!

Thanks, that's what I'm doing. Stock needle, stock jets. I'll drill the slide and shim the needle with a #4 washer. I will probably modify the stock exhaust at some point, but for now I just de-tweeted it.

I even filled the drilled slide too in returning to stock. I recall that I did shim the needle.

just wanted to share. I got 8,500 miles out of this rear Kenda 270 on my 99 and could have probably squeezed out 9k. 75/25 pavement/dirt majority of with a 100lbs load and 210lbs rider fully geared. great tire! would def buy another set. now trying out a set of Shinko 244's

Thumb +1 on the Kenda's

Just about all I run on my '09 now Love 'em.
Shinko 244's Never again, They were on the bike for 850 miles and started throwing the center lugs off. Never again with the Shinko's. I was promised a refund after removing the tire and showing proof that it was destroyed. It never happened. I'll never purchase another Shinko tire.

I'm the exact opposite. Kenda 270's are way too squirrly for me. I have 244's on 2 of my bikes and have at least 1 Shinko on all my other bikes. I have no complaints with them at all.

270 on the rear is OK, but I won't go back after a 244. Tougher tire and cheaper. 270 on the front is scary.
