another hint;

the Sawtooth Mtns are visible in this picture and so are the White Cloud Mtns... but they are only barely visible on the far far horizon... does that help any??

Pinyon Peak LO

When I saw the first picture, I thought to my self, I have been there

But I thought Pinyon Peak had already been guessed. (What I get for not reading the other guesses carefully)

When I saw that last Hint picture, then I knew I had been there.

I then looked back carefully and realized Pinyon Peak had not yet been guessed. I am going with Pinyon Peak LO

Is that whole loop, from 008 to 172, open to travel, or is it gated? Can an old geezer like me make it?

Last I knew, the whole loop was open... as soon as the snow melts out, it's usually about mid to late July before the route between Pinyon Peak and Loon Creek Guard station is open... and then there are usually some washouts, down trees etc... but we got through ok when we did late July two years ago on a KLR and a 1200GS... and I am an "old Geezer" ;o)

Thanks for the info. I'm plotting a route around ID for later this yr. Sort of what I call the "Grand Loop of Idaho" (the paved route around central ID) only using many forest roads.

Those pics looked like some good views. That is what I'm after, I'll probably be solo, so not after a serious riding challenge. .

Lostine river

Speaking of rivers, I got to see the Selway river and Selway Falls in flood today. WOW! Nothing like the calm version I have alwasy seen in the fall. I think it may still be going up, about 4' will see all the really old driftwood moving , probably some of the road too.

Picture of a cow and calf crossing the "body of water."

Picture taken from the trail that shares the same name.
