Hi Res
Are they in or out for the season? Or is it a definitive maybe?

Hi Res
So that would be only the second car in the field with a smooth nose, right?

I think they have until Melbourne to pass the crash test. One assumes they'll manage that. A bit scary to reach the first race without any test time.

Odds on them qualifying within 107%? Imagine taking all your stuff to Oz and not making the cut. I wonder if F1 would cut them some slack?

haven't they always done so before? Has there been a race where they didn't make the cut?

I watched this last night. It was a pretty sad and gruesome hour of television. When you look back on that era, it's pretty surprising that respect for the life of the drivers was so lacking.

Marussia set for Melbourne after passing crash test

The Marussia MR01 is now cleared to race after passing its final FIA crash test today.
The car was allowed to have a shakedown on a promotional day at Silverstone yesterday, and had already passed an unobserved test.
After a challenging few weeks for the team, we are pleased to have overcome the last hurdle of the final FIA-observed crash test, which we passed today, said technical consultant Pat Symonds.
The component in question actually passed an unobserved crash test but has been performing inconsistently in the observed tests. The previous fail was only marginal so we needed to have a slightly more robust solution in place. A few minor adjustments to the original concept of the component was all that was required.
We were all thrilled to see the new car out on track over the past two days and whilst we have a lot of catching up to do, we take heart from the fact that everything is back on a more positive trajectory. We now look forward to the challenge of the season-opener in Melbourne next weekend.

Yes, had to look it up, it was Melbourne last year, neither HRT car made the grid.

Good column in Pitpass on the risk of racing in Bahrain.

Whatever your feelings on the subject, you have to acknowledge that F1 is going to be a big, fat target for an oppressed majority population.

Ferrari really do sound like they're on the back foot. I'm not sure this is bluffing.

Man...someone is NOT a fan of Bernie...
That being said, he did paint one ugly picture of this years GP, If I was a driver I'd be a bit worried.

it wouldn't surprise me that the teams would WANT the race to happen, since their sponsors expect them to be at so many races with their given funding, of course, that doesn't mean that they WILL if there's a huge risk. In my opinion, it shouldn't happen, and I hope it doesn't ever again.

The tricky thing for Bahrain is that the repressed majority is also their low-paid workforce. Probably hard to keep them away from the facility on race day.

I can imagine a horrible scenario in which a worker runs onto the track and is killed by a car. Blood all over the sponsor name. Talk about ghastly. But not inconceivable in a world where suicide bombings and self-immolations are accepted means of protest.

Without even getting into the morality of the situation, F1's taking a chance.
