What better way to tell the world that things aren't OK in Bahrain, than to disrupt a high-profile event like F1? The reason the monarchy is so eager for the race to run as planed is to project an air of normalcy, of stability. That puts F1 smack dab in the middle of their turmoil. It should decline the invitation.
I'm not sure if they gave enough context in that article. The protesters were complaining about their government being brutal and covering them with tear gas while they were rioting? So they created a riot and then complained about being punished for it?

We're veering off on a tangent here, but find me where it says they rioted. Demonstration and riot are not synonyms. We have freedom of assembly here, protected by our constitution. Bahrain, not so much.

Two week "rest." How many teams will bring new bits to China? I remember reading that (most?) teams are waiting until the European races for their first major updates.

If true, then Malaysia qualifying form should hold for China, since the tracks are quite similar, no?

Lotus claim that they are bringing a package that will improve them by 2 tenths a lap... given where they have been sitting in the field, this could mean some podiums for them.

Pretty sure I will refuse to watch Bahrain if it goes through. Kind of disgusting if you ask me. I blame the sponsors more than anybody.

First time a Mercedes on pole since 1955!!!!!!!!!
Good job Nico!
Hami, 5 spot penalty for trans change, so Schumi 2nd on grid!!
Nice.

Hope race goes good for these two.

This me being mean again.

Red Bull is running two exhaust systems. One is the fastest, the one preferred by Newey. But there's a problem with this solution. Vettel can't handle it. Webber likes it. He's faster than Vettel.

Can't have that. So Newey trots out a second solution, closer to last year's design, in an attempt to placate Helmut Marko and his pet poodle. But it's slower. Tee hee! Vettel bounced in Q2. Extra chew toys and soothing strokes on the head in the Red Bull motor home tonight, to take little Sebastien's mind off of things.

Yeah, this can't be healthy for me. I gotta ease up on the lap dog.

I loved that piece of F1 history that Matchett trotted out. First Mercedes pole since 1955, won by the legendary Juan Manuel Fangio. Nice to see that connection to the past.

Not quite sure how the race will play out, if it stays dry. The McLarens seem to have the best race pace, but Button wasn't feeling it in qualy and Lewis has to come from 7th. Could be interesting. How aggressive will Michael be at the start? Love Kobayashi's 4th (3rd with Hamilton's drop.) Wouldn't it be nice to see little Sauber do well again?

Massa was about 3/10ths slower than Alonso in Q2 and Q3. Is that close enough to allay concerns? Did you notice the double winglets by the cockpit on the Ferrari? Didn't seem to help.

It's nice to see a grid different from what we've been used to seeing the past couple of years; Mercedes 1 & 2, Lotus 4 & 10, Sauber 3 & 8. I just hope no one (Kobayashi?... Vettel? ) does a banzai start and takes anyone out. How much of a threat is Raikkonen, really?
