Those bracelets are funny!

I have some sympathy for Pirelli in F1. They've taken some lumps for doing the FIA's bidding by creating quick-wear tires, and they don't seem to complain about it.

Great find, Greg!

Having worked with race data like this for years, I can't understand why Hamilton stayed with this package... were there only enough parts for one car? (Highly unlikely, but possible I guess.)

It would have been very obvious from their first session that his setup wasnt the way to go... in fact, the difference should have been apparent from their simulation models back at HQ.

The new McLaren rear wing hadn't been tested, because rain ruined Friday practices. In the absence of complete data, Hamilton's team voted to take the devil they knew (the old wing.) Button's team took a chance and used the new wing. That data from Hamilton is from qualifying, when it was too late to change their minds.

A lot of times, new parts don't do what the simulations predict, so I understand why Hamilton's bunch were conservative.

His peevishness after qualy is another in a long series of incidents that show how mentally fragile he is. He's a high maintenance guy, a bit of a spoiled child. If his performance ever drops off, McLaren will be glad to be rid of him, I suspect.

Funny that Lotus has developed a new, secondary drag reduction system... but they can't use it at Monza because the car is already in minimum downforce configuration. They've had the thing since before the break but still haven't been able to use it in a race, I believe. Didn't deploy it at Spa because the rain meant they couldn't test it.

the story is... they aren't going to use "the device" until Suzuka.
they claim that was always the plan
seems a little too conservative.

they have used it in testing a few times now

Matchett on Grosjean (paraphrased):

Quote:
I talked to team managers up and down pit row and the majority opinion was the Grospjean is lucky to find himself only suspended for one race. It could have been a much more severe punishment.
Among those close to F1, the Grosjean penalty is not a controversial issue.

you'll be banging on about Hamilton being unconscious next

This being the first day of the next race weekend and the first TV coverage of F1 since Grosjean almost killed a man, I don't think this qualifies as "beating that horse, eh?"

Agreed, Matchett talks too much. However, I trust that he's accurately reporting the sentiment of F1's professionals.
