The wait for the tail problem can be handled by the slow riders themselves . If your holding the group up, get a few of the slower guys together and break off and form another group and catch up at the breaks.

The guy obviously doesn't know the relay system we use, Rick,
OR that our routes have 60 - 70 turns in a day,
OR that people don't ride in straight lines up and down steep bumpy gravel.

I need some 'mid pack' leaders like you have to more effectively break up into sub-groups.

We've got lots of 'em Kevin, and none of 'em know the route ahead of time. They just know the system : X-factor, RmarkR, Strongmendieyoung, Katoom119, Greywolf, Intothenew, Travelguy, SorryifImissedanyonecauseIknowIcantthinkofthemall . . .
Most ride with me one day per rally and go on other rides too, so they may already be right there with you sometimes.

These guys allow me to be 2 or 3 intersections ahead of my sweep.
This relay system definitely keeps things moving.

Briefly: A relay man is in charge of a natural gap between
riders of different speeds, NOT in charge of a group of people.

If you are leading a ride of 2 dozen riders or more, and you ask each rider to wait for the rider behind him at every turn,
IT WILL NOT WORK because there are too many people to screw it up, and you can bet, one of them will.



KTM MIKE'S RELAY SYSTEM:
The great thing about this system is that riders who are faster than me, can ride faster than me, without passing me.
This system developed out of necessity.

Mr. Banjo Man,

My humble suggestion: you could rig up a spray can of orange paint on that motorsickle that is remotely push-button-operated: every time you turn, change directions, etc. you just lay down a streak of orange through the intersection!

Now, if you yourself get lost and start doubling back, I guess that could get really confusing, real quick-like! Maybe bring an asphalt/gravel colored can of spray to cover any boo boos?!

The biggest problem that I can see with that idea is that the line would be wiped away when Banjo roosts through the corner.
