Question

Hi alskee.
Ya please do.
Also, how many miles/km do you guys have on your bikes now?
Anybody done a valve check yet? Were they in spec?

I'm at 7000 miles on the Beemer. 82000 on my Triumph

This is my first EFI bike so I'm stumbled at times of all the crap that goes with it I'm use to my carb operated trumpet and easy to get to spark plugs

I had my Beemer 6000 miles service done by BMW, what a waste of cash. My valves were out of spec and had to be adjusted but there was an issue I had them look at under warranty so I had them do the work. That will/was my last time doing it with them. I'll be doing my own work going forward. I found this link on adjusting valves, it's a long one but explains it pretty straight forward. The problem is you have to remove a whole lot of shit. And for us first timers it will take some time and patience.

http://youtu.be/XIt2_jfeVqU

I forget how much out of spec they were I'll look at my service papers to see how much off it was.

Our take shims you'll need one of those calipers to take measurements. I think you have to remove the cam holder, etc. There is probably an easier way but I dont know, and it will also be my first time in that engine.

I have 30,000 km on mine now and have checked the valves three times and they have been good all three times although there seems to be some confusion as to what the correct spec is. It seems the spec changed with the hot start decompressor issue

africa twin,
both impressive and interesting.

so what you are saying is: " after the dealer fixes the decompression lever issue the valve spec changes." ?

did you have your dealer fix the hot start issue on your 'Tao ?

-i brought mine in and they fixed it-

Wow, you beat me to it..

Kdennan, funny which Max BMW dealer you go to? I go to the one in CT, great group of people. I'm having them address the decomp on Friday, I'll be waiting while they make the change. Probably go out and test some bikes while they work on stuff

Yeah, yeah
I gotta post some pics. I just have to figure it out. I only have a blackberry, but I think I can shoot some pics on it and send it to my laptop no problem. What's the procedure to post pics here?

For what it's worth, I also have the following gear (I am new to adv riding. I have a Husaberg woods bike though so I'm no slouch at the bike handling:) This is all the stuff I have so far:

PIAA Extreme White Headlight bulb

GSI Micro folding table

GSI Soloist cookset

MSR Pocket Rocket stove

REI Flexlite folding chair

TT tire/changing mat

Sierra Designs Clip Flashliight 2 tent

Cruz M3 toolkit

Cycle Pump

TT tire iron 24mm box wrench

Stock toolkit

Spare tubes

MSR 4 liter Dromedary bag

Klim Latitude Misano pants and jacket

Gerbings heated jacket liner

Garmin Edge 650 GPS (on the cheap. I got it for my bikes long ago)

Klim Element gauntlet gloves, Adventure gloves and Klimate gloves for cold

Airoh DS helmet

Aerostich BMW cigarette socket adapter for charging cell phone

Rok straps

Alpinestars Scout waterproof boots

Klim vented sock, Klim sock and Mammoth sock

EMS trailhead pants for chillin (light, dry quick and packable)

Candle lantern

Sanuk sandle/shoes for chillin (light and pack flat)

And just some other little bits of personal preference

##On the list to get##

Garmin Zumo 660LM with locking mount package from TT

Sunshade for Zumo

GPS bracket adapter from TT for mounting above speedo

Cardo Scala G9 bluetooth headset

Ohlins shock

Nuetech is coming out with a DOT approved Tubliss version and will even have a 17" setup! I run Tubliss on my woods bike and will never run tubes again

Pretty sure that's it
Gotta have the kit

Oh and gotta have the Ortlieb waterproof TP holder

And bolting a hockey puck on the sidestand
