I was wondering if there are any Sertao owners that stand under 5'11" (and are ok admitting that)? The taller suspension and seat height is the primary thing keeping me from going all-in on the Sertao. If there are any owners around the 5'10" range, how do you find standing the bike upright on less than ideal footing? (i.e. NOT on the showroom floor that's level, clean, and warm...)

Thanks!

I'm 5'9" on a good day. It was intimidating at first, but didn't take long to get used to it. I finally figured out the dampening and when softened up, it is even better. Give it a shot.

No problem at all, both bikes are identical in this area.

question....

Quick question for you owners. What do you think of the stock seat? Does it get uncomfortable after a while??? Some bikes you can tell almost immediately that you'll need a seat upgrade.
Thanks

Personally, the seat after a long ride 100+ starts getting a bit hard. But I think with every seat it needs to be broken in. Mind you mine feels better now that I'm at 1100 miles. But my only problem that I have is how the seat cups your butt and pulls you forward. I'm use to seats that are flat. I'm schedule for a seat makeover in September to eliminate that issue through www.renazco.com. Time will tell but I'm certain it will be much better.

Good luck.. go ride one there a hoot!

The 1st thing I did was swap out the std seat for "Dakar" high seat - This does raise the seat height but the added comfort is well worth it.

Thanks guys... So that "Dakar" high seat... is it a BMW seat, or aftermarket?

Thanks. So if the regular seat height is 35, what is the high one?
Cheers

Philip Hawksley's site shows 870 mm (34.25 in) for the Dakar and 780 mm (30.70 inches) for the standard F650GS.

The seat hight for the G650GS Sertao with the standard seat is 860mm. When you install the optional high seat, which has the same part number as the standard F650GS Dakar seat, the Sertao seat hight will get 900mm.
I had the opportunity to swap the seats when I picked up my Sertao and I tried a standard seat from a F650GS Dakar which was available at this day and it is true. The seat fits, no problem at all, but the seat height is significantly more high then before. But I will look for the high one, because I have done now the first 1000 km and the standard seat is a pain.

Thumbs down ..

...nothing worse than having a bike you love, and a seat you hate....

I thought the standard Dakar seat is the high seat. At least that's how it was sold here in Japan, with the option being the low seat, aka standard F650GS seat.

This is a bike on my consideration list as I am going to buy this spring. I am also planning to head south so I am wondering about quality of gas on how the bike handles it. Any experience out there with low octane yet?

thanks ahead of time,
Jooka
