Freshman has never won. Took 72 years for the first sophomore, Tebow, to win. (Bradford and Ingram followed) History does not look kind on Johnny Football winning this year. Geez, you win it your freshman year, what is left? NC? Maybe....but that is a big if. I would bet they will make him duplicate this years results before giving him the award.

I still favor Montee Ball who has produced every year. Set records. And just gets the job done.

I agree and disagree. Rex Grossman lost out on the Heisman because of this Sophomore Bias and it ended up being a 'career' award. The Heisman is supposed to be for the best player in a given year. Manziel is that player this year. Who gives a shit what year he is. He's set all sorts of records, beat Bama...in Bama. It would suck for him to have a year like this and then get injured next year and never get a sniff again. JMHO...

Here's some great news for Tulane University. We have just accepted an invitation to join the BIG EAST, one of the country's leading collegiate athletics conferences, beginning in 2014.

With the largest footprint in all of college sports, the BIG EAST is an excellent fit for Tulane, whose students come from every state, especially the Northeast, where the conference is headquartered. But that is just one of the reasons the BIG EAST conference members voted unanimously to extend an invitation to Tulane.

Tulane's appeal to the BIG EAST centered around our academic profile as a major research and highly selective university with membership in the Association of American Universities and our designation at the highest levels of research and civic engagement by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Also in our favor was our location in New Orleans, which provides a new market for the BIG EAST, and our track record as holder of more C-USA championships than any other school from 1997 to 2005.

The BIG EAST presidents were also impressed by our recovery after Hurricane Katrina and our renewed commitment to athletics that included the reinstatement of a full complement of Division I athletics programs; investment in new and renovated facilities, including Yulman Stadium; our efforts to enhance our coaching staffs, both in quality and in remuneration and our academic support systems for student-athletes. As part of the BIG EAST, Tulane joins several excellent universities, distinguished in their research, scholarship and teaching missions — not to mention in athletics competition.

While accepting the invitation to join the BIG EAST made perfect sense, we did not make the decision to leave our current conference, Conference USA, easily. We have had some great friendships, great rivalries and great successes in Conference USA over the last 17 years.

Joining the BIG EAST, in which we will compete in all sports, means big things for Tulane, its student-athletes and Green Wave fans everywhere. BIG EAST membership will bring increased visibility and revenue from television rights, ticket sales and merchandise. Tulane student-athletes will also have the opportunity to play on a bigger stage against a very competitive field.

In the end, the decision came down to what was best for the university, our student-athletes and our fans. In the end, this was one Thanksgiving invitation we could not pass up.

Before I could have an easy trip down to UTEP-- Would have in 2014 anyhow. Plus the Texas Schools-- Rice/SMU/Houston and Okie's Tulsa were easy (cheap) SWA flights....

This year I got to three games, Rutgers in N.O., UTEP and Houston. (last weekend) Which is the same number of UNM games I went to.

Now easy will be SMU. SDSt will make a fun weekend. And of course home games in N.O.

I just hope they play BC at some point.

Les Miles has 'serious offer' from Arkansas, according to report

The Arkansas Razorbacks have reportedly offered LSU Tigers head coach Les Miles a five-year, $27.5-million contract to leave LSU and become the head coach at Arkansas, according to the Times-Picayune. The information originally came from a tweet by Sports by Brooks; it's been denied from the Fayetteville side, and the LSU sports information department declined comment when asked.

Damn, this is getting better & better. In the Big East, Boise State only had Temple as our long time rival.

Now we have Tulane as well. Whoopa! At least the away games will be fun. They should let Idaho in as well.

Beat Nevada and BSU shares the MW Title w/ 10 wins. OK for a serious rebuilding year but 7 points away from a prefect season. Still need a kicker and hopefully the Florida kid - Nick Patti had a decent redshirt year and will challenge at QB next season.

Spoiled. Headed again for the Vegas Muffler Bowl I'd bet.

I heard on the radio on the way to work today that Les Miles was meeting with Arkansas's AD this morning.

I agree, I seriously doubt that he is going anywhere, he is however going to be asking LSU to open up the piggy bank before this all over.
