The musta wanted out pretty bad to pony up that much. But, now we know why WVU canceled the FSU game. Looks pretty much like they're set up for a full pretty full Big 12 schedule.

So, how much money is there in college football for WVU to be out $11 large, and then have a big increase in their travel budget?

I don't get it. WVU had an almost guaranteed trip to the orange bowl every year. Big East is still a BCS automatic bid conference.

I'm not sure it's worth the money.

they actually split up the sanctions by appealing them, ultimately losing the appeal.

the bowl ban sanction is over.

the scholarship reductions are just starting.

Mountain West, Conference USA planning new 16-team league

There likely will be one less Football Bowl Subdivision conference in 2013 with Conference USA and the Mountain West announcing they are working on finalizing a merging the two leagues.

The new unnamed league would include Alabama-Birmingham, East Carolina, Marshall, Rice, Southern Mississippi, UTEP, Tulane and Tulsa from C-USA and current Mountain West schools Air Force, Colorado State, New Mexico, UNLV and Wyoming.

WAC schools Fresno State, Nevada and Hawaii, which were planning to join the Mountain West in 2013, will also be part of the league, with Hawaii being a football-only member.

According to a joint release, the plan for the new conference would include 18 to 24 schools and hold a football championship format that includes semifinals and a title game...

Life in the super conference isn't all it's cracked up to be. To be fair, ECU and Hawaii are definitely going to be in opposite divisions. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Thursday night game format done there if someone from the east coast plays in Hawaii. Then again, these kids get free tutoring even if they don't miss classes.

Im already a little disappointed with the Super SEC. It never really occurred to me that we were going to see our rivals in the opposite division nearly as much if we expanded. Then again, auburn and ole miss were always our trap games.

On MountainUSA-- short term I am happy, hope that Tulane comes to NM or vice versa. Plus it will give more schools that they do match up against.

But overall I think it is a bit of a fiasco. A fiasco made necessary by all of the realignment in college football. At one time I could argue that the MountainWest was better in football than the BigEast. Well, it was for a short time. Now it is a bunch of left overs finding another group of left overs.

I still think 12 mostly similar schools, with similar geography is the ideal conference-- See SEC/Big12 before the silliness of the past few years. Yes SEC has Vanderbilt & the Big12 Baylor- but the bulk of the conference was public universities in a geographically sound unit.

Now we have a potential conference with teams in Hawaii, Florida and West Virginia. I just can't see that I'll feel a lot of passion when UNM plays Marshall the same way I've felt when UNM played bYloosers.

Sounds like on the BCS front there is some real talk of a "plus one." Also I've heard a rumor that the BCS is talking about only doing the BCS Bowl and maybe two feed in games--- leave the Big Bowls to decide who they get on their own. But that is but one factor. The real money now is in the TV contracts.
