I need help sourcing a couple nuts (pun intended)
I'm working on a fork conversion right now and need 3 stem nuts. None of them have commonly available threads. Let's see who can do the best internet search. Oh and if I knew what the stem was for, I'd already have the parts (I don't). It is for a yz450 but is aftermarket, likely Pro Taper or Ohlins.
bottom nuts (qty 2) are M30x1.25 Top nut is M26x1.25 I ordered both of these nuts from a roketta parts site but the nuts that arrived had such boogered up threads, they wouldn't fit. Thus, the search continues. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Stop by one of your local machine shops and have them spin them up for you.

Looks like there's a Porsche transmission that uses a M30 x 1.25.
Bevel gear shaft nut M30 x 1.25 330 Shaft nut on M30 x 1.25 # 997 GT2 - GT3 ...and an Aprilia scooter that uses an M26 x 1.25 rear wheel nut. http://www.vsmotoparts.com/nut-m26x1-25 http://www.vanseggeren.nl/aprilia_3....O=Rear%20wheel Some Roketa site, too. Any chance chasing with a tap (or thread file) would clean up the nuts you've got enough to work? Ask your machine shop about heat-treat on your custom ones. I'd be suspicious of a "grade 0" untreated nut. -edit- on reread, wouldn't chasing down ProTaper or Ohlins be easier than any of this other stuff? A few emails to their techs should get if squared pretty quickly, since you have the size and pitch...

Thanks for doing some searching. I would have ordered the Aprilia nut but the site wasn't from the US. As for contacting Pro-Taper and Ohlins. I keep doing it and never get an answer. I'll keep trying before I get custom ones made.

PM sent! If you can tell me what Ohlins product/s use the nuts you are looking for, it would be easier for me to look up the part numbers.

Drop EagleMike a line...his Prevailing Torque KLR sprocket nut is 30mm. Dunno the pitch. If that dosn't work, I'd trust his custom machine work all day long.
There are a couple Aprilia nuts on ebay, but it doesn't say the size. There are some 25x1.5 Aprilia axles, so I'd do some parts-fiche digging. link1 link2 And a Porsche trans nut HERE and HERE , HERE. Says 30mm, doesn't say pitch.

Thank you. I'm thinking the stem is either honda or KTM based on my WAG. I might just shoot my machinist buddy an email and have him make them. Getting tired of searching.

We get a lot of hardware at work from:
http://www.metricmcc.com/ and http://www.bigbolt.net/ I always fail to find stuff on their websites, but it would be worth giving them a call. They have a lot more big stuff than McMaster. |
