My last three bike purchases have been cash... Would love to get to a point where all my auto purchases were cash. Maybe one day...

I cheated, I bought a 20 yr old car for $1200 last year after looking at this specific model for several years and giving up on finding one in the condition I really wanted. this one had a great body and very good interior except trashed seats, and was mechanically very well maintained except it was going to need a head gasket (coolant seepage on the outside, not compression failure on the inside). Told my wife, I was buying a $5000 car. I've fixed the head gasket, just finished a suspension upgrade (all new bushings, bilsteins, sway bars, ball joints, etc, along with new brakes), and I have a pair of very nice grey leather seats from a later version (fully compatible) sitting here waiting to go in. still under my $5000 budget :) and ready for the next 200K miles. I expect to keep this car for the next 10+ years. best part is, being a 20 year old RWD 4 cyl, its as easy to maintain as a motorcycle.
now, I know you're all going to laugh when I tell you what my 20 year old car is that I'd go to so much trouble for..... its a 1992 Volvo 740 turbo wagon (the big square boxy one). It has as much cargo room as many SUVs, can tow a 3500 lb trailer, or 1200 lbs of payload inside, and a clean plain silver wagon is probably the last car the average highway patrol officer would pull over assuming I'm not doing something really stupid, hah hah. with the back seats folded down, its 6' flat space in back, so you can even camp in it in a pinch. the turbos have a g80 locker in the dana30 rear end, so they are actually quite good in the snow and on dirt roads, it has better ground clearance than most newer cars. and there's no other car I'd rather be in if I'm going to get smashed into by another zombie driver. ![]() ![]() hey, my dog loves it!

Sounds like my car. It's got 304,327 miles on it. I bought it, put a new interior in it and fixed some minor under hood issues and BAM! I have a 32 mpg four seat car (rwd of course) that handles awesome!
Best part: I bought it from Ben Carufel with cash money! $ ![]() IS IT APRIL YET??!!
