Best 1911 .45 for less than $1k

I know what a lot of guys are going to say, but I recommend a Taurus PT1911. I was in the Army Infantry as a machine-gunner, then a designated marksman with ODA 3242 and I purchased a Springfield 1911A1 and a PT1911. The PT out performed the Springer and my buddies didn't believe me. So, my friends and I had a "shoot off" with our 1911s and the only one that beat the Taurus was a Les Baer, and not by much. I bought the blued version, but I would recommend a stainless one because the bluing wears off pretty easily. The finish on my blued PT1911 wore off pretty quick and I recently refinished it in HK black Duracoat.

The frame and slide on the Taurus are forged and they come with Heine straight 8 sights or Novak three dots. You can purchase an array of different sights for the PT1911 at Novak's website (http://www.novaksights.com/products/sights/models/taurus1911.html)

Here is a link to a review on the stainless PT1911 http://www.gunblast.com/Taurus-PT1911SS.html

Yeah, I fondled it in the store just before you got yours. Wasn't too sure about the flat trigger at the time, but now that I've handled it I love it.

Picked this up this past weekend:

(not mine but same gun & grips)
RIA Match .45 1911-A1
Brand new $670 otd

The Hogue grips (pictured) were on the front step when I got home.
Only bummer was that the local range was packed and I didn't feel like standing around for an hour waiting for a spot to open up.
I'll be putting it through it's paces this Sat though

You'll love it. You can't beat an RIA for anywhere NEAR the price.

BTW, you'll either LOVE ot HATE those grips....I can't stand wrap grips on a 1911. Especially finger grooved ones.

I'm a big Kimber and Wilson fan. But they dont meet op's price spec.
So my recommendation would be Para, or better, yet a Remington R1

Question for the masses. What is the general opinion of the alloy Para LTC in .45ACP? I like the idea of a 28 ounce Commander sized 1911 for occasional carry and general woods bumming?

Para LTC, good to go, or?

Both guns are nice, shoot well and are more accurate than my shooting ability can use. The next gun I will get is a 1911 which I will purchase later in the spring. The brand I have decided to get is a Ed Brown Special Forces.
Who would have thought- planned to get one pistol and end up with 3!!
Thanks to all who posted to this topic!!
Here's a pic of my CZ with the VZ grips.

And here's my Para Ord, it was made in 2003.

My next .45 will most definitely be a DW Valor.

It is always (or seemingly so) a crap shoot on the Paras. SOME are great, SOME are bad. If you can shoot the exact gun you want first, then I say go for it. If not, ALL the other 1011 makers make a Lightweight Commander sized 1911 in .45acp.

If it has night sites, it looks perfect to me.

It has the Heine Eight sights.

The Dan Wessons are phenomenal. Their whole line up is good.

I picked up a Springfield "loaded" (nite sights, beavertail etc) for about $600 a few years ago new. Also grabbed a Springfield "operator" which has rails for about $1000.
