Kentucky routes/tracks...

OK boyz here they are. I've driven/ridden these over the winter and they were all open and clean when I did so. These have been tested by the committee and all load and run on my Garmin Oregon. You might need or want to rename/edit them for your particular device. The days are split into 2 main paved routes each day. They're named icebreaker_ky_1a & icebreaker_ky_1b for Saturday and icebreaker_ky_2a and 2b for Sunday. The routes that have a gravel section are the same way. Saturday has 2, GRAVEL_1a & 1b and Sunday has three, GRAVEL_2a, 2b & 2c. The gravel routes all branch off the ice_breaker paved ones and then rejoin them. I use tracks myself.

There are a couple waypoints to note. They're named "Sharp Right!!!" and "BLIND intersection". Hope you can figure out what they mean. "BLIND intersection is one to keep in mind. There really should be a stop sign at that intersection. Another waypoint is on the first leg of Sunday, the Porky Pig diner in beautiful downtown Pig, Ky. It has a pretty good breakfast buffet on Sunday. They open 7am Central time.

There are 2 ferrys that cross the Green river in Mammoth Cave NP, one on the last leg of Saturday which operates 6am - 9:55pm (Green River Ferry) and the second on the first gravel section of Sunday (Houchins Ferry) 10:15am - 6pm. Keep this in mind if your getting an early start on Sunday as you might not want to wait around for it to open and keep on the pavement. Also note again the Central time zone and high water can affect operation. Here's a ferry hotline (270)758-2166 just in case.

For Saturday night I visited some restaurants in Cave City and none can really fit the whole group that I found. There's a couple Mexican places, a Cracker Barrel, Pizza Hut and the like. That much or more in Park City near by. Might even want to try the Porky Pig for dinner. Looks like restaurants can sell alcohol by the drink but no package sales. I'm bringing my own barley pops for the camp fire!

I think Tim is going to link to this post to his first post in the thread. Let's all remember this is just a fun way to start off the 2012 riding season and we all do so at our own risk. Ride your own ride, sold by weight not volume..blah, blah, blah. You know the drill

Those without a gps ought to hook up with someone who does and I'd suggest smallish groups of riders. We don't want to look like a Harley Poker run (not that there's anything wrong with that!).

Let me know if you want the gdb file emailed to you and I'll be happy to oblige.

================================================== =====================

'Big Dog' Mark Sampson has edited and combined the tracks. I'd suggest we all use these.

Here's the link....http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=774808

Here's the link for the ridewithgps.com site with both KY & IN tracks...Click here

================================================== =====================

Here's some notes of the Indiana tracks -

In-Ky and Ky-In are the paved routes and Gravel South/Gravel North have a very short section of gravel road with some switchbacks. As you can see the paved and gravel tracks share much of the same route. Riders on street bikes who want to ride along the river can switch over to the gravel route south of I-64 and not ride on any gravel roads and by the same token switch from the Gravel North track to the Ky-In and stay on pavement back to Paoli.

Thanks

GPS file

Thanks so much Mark,

I downloaded the file just fine.

It seems now that the only place you can post a gps file is in the GPS section (Layin' Down Tracks)---and then it can only be a .gpx file.

Anyway-------if someone has to have a .gpx file----------you can e-mail me and I'll get it to you if Mark doesn't have it in a .gpx format.

If your bike weighs more than 400lbs. You might not make it.

Glad to hear they worked Mark.

You're the Big Dog of all things gps around here. I did upload these to ridewithgps.com too.

If I knew for a fact the weather was going to as nice as it is tonight I'd consider camping, something I haven't done in probably a dozen years. Lets hope it stays this nice at least through this weekend for the Madison ride.

A friend pointed me to this thread. Looks like a good time. I likely won't know whether I can go until the week previous. Hopin'. Think I could get in on short notice?

There's no sign up or anything else. This is the closest thing to a motorcycle flash mob you'll ever be involved with. You just show up at 11 AM at the Huck's just west of downtown Paoli on March 24. How easy is that???
