Okay, I cant hold back any longer, here is what I have managed to piece together so far...I included the section at the bottom as well, you can compare it to the profile in the official website (live tracking screen).

This pic takes you from the DSS on the bottom left in orange to the WP1, 40,7 or 41km out as indicated by ASO.

The first couple of kilometres is in a river bed right past a huge spectator area.

The route follows a series of rocky riverbeds and washes quickly climbing 1,200m to an altitude 3,200m (9,600feet) and will be fairly slow going.

It finds a secret way through the mountain and down another narrow gorge to WP1, with spectacular views of the main Andes in the distance.

This is just a taste of things to come later in the stage.

Just curious, is Rosa on the bike staying in the Mini camp where her husband Nani is? Are they supporting her effort in some way?

No sleep since the start (a few hours on the sofa at end leg 1) I was with the second pack all day yesterday... and made the ASS in second place (though a distant second to some bloke in Lima who went out "pre-running" on the parade day... )

Finally apon making the cyber bivouac yesterday afternoon (saw Al Attiyah cross the line), I headed off for some much needed sleep...

Up at 5:30 am (local Swednavian time) this morning... a quick check of the servers, check all the nav gear and set off on the cyber liason in the wee hours of the morning headed for todays start.

Passing a lot of carnage here on the side of the F5 piste... and can see the accumulative effects in some of the virtual competitors (spelling misstakes are the tell tale signs )...

I expect to be at the F5 DSS of todays third SS in about 45 minute's, where I can do some pre-start maintenence (stage overview), maybe some breakfast and kick back and watch some eurosport to catch up on the gossip. (Eurosport is not an information source for the tru F5'er... WE feed THEM... it's just entertainment! )

see ya'... I can see a bit more dust up ahead to catch...
I know what you mean, I'm falling behind on the road book. And rof the rorecd my sellipng is jsut fnie tahkns!

It wears one down I tell you. I still have teach another guy how to ride this week and prep for our Dakar trippie next week. Oh yes, I an also need to work. I love this time of year.

I would add that once a team retires they are basically an expense and liability to the ASO. Logistically the ASO has to house, feed, provide medical care and move a small city every day, so it's to their interest to reduce the size of the traveling circus. This is also why they want to weed out the field with difficult stages. High attrition means higher profit.

Oh BTW, they updated the withdrawals list:

2 44 BRUNO DA COSTA (FRA) YAMAHA ABANDONO
2 167 THIERRY DEZEIRAUD (FRA) KTM ABANDONO
2 38 ARNAUD BESNIER (FRA)APRILIA ABANDONO

It would be interesting to hear their stories. I expect this list will grow in the morning.

What is the etiquette in regards to pointing out there nationality in regards to certain stereotypical traits of said country in such an unfortunate time as they have no doubt endured?

I assure you Blue... I've passed all the WPM's (and answered them), ridden every page and paid attention to the post's hidden in the F5esh fesh...

You can "pop quizz" me if you like mr Scrutineerbull ... I know I have everything in my emergency rations kit... as per the regs.

Good tips for F5 n00bs: the Cliffnotes thread is like your roadbook... if you fall off the leader board... MAKE SURE you get your bearings by doing the roadbook first (that will give you reference points... so that if you need to "cut and run", when you do get back on course, you not flying blind without some vital information.

MANY 205 posts of a significant nature can be avoided by referring to Cliffnotes
