Half day rides from Whatcom County

Looking for some good gravel or two-track near Whatcom county. I have a (now) good running Buell Ulysses that I want to go and get dirty. I live in Ferndale, my wife works and kids are in school during the day. I have the last half of the week off every week. Pretty new to the area so even the obvious places aren't to me!
Thanks
Scotty

From Ferndale, take Smith RD out to HWY 542 East,
542 East to HWY 9 south
9 south till 542 splits back off to the north
542 to Mosquito Lk Rd
MSL to NF-38 Ride out NF-38 as far as you can, then turn around.
Once back to Mosq Lk Rd, Head south, it eventually runs back into Hwy 9.
Take HWY 9 down to Park Rd, head west on park which will become South Bay rd. and eventually skirt around south end of Lake Whatcom.
Take S. Bay over to Cain Lk Rd. head south till it runs into Old hwy 99. Take that north, cross I-5 and take Lake Samish drive along the side of Lake Samish. you can basically follow that all the way up into Bellingham.
Lots of pavement, but let me know how NF-38 is.

89.9 mi, 3 hr 41 min driving.

Chuckanut Dr from Bellingham down the coast through Larrabee St Park is amazing. But paved. Watch for wide RV's.

Riding There Sunday

Leaky,
I'll be over in that area this weekend. I could show you some good stuff in that area if you'd like. Coming from Mt Vermin, I could meet you for coffee at 9 or 10 in Acme. I'll PM you my number. Dave

Hi Dave!

The route AUW gave was really close to what I was going to say.
Or see how close you can get to Twin Lakes.

Well today was glorious. One F800, one DR650 and my KLR riding all day all over FS-38, Sumas Mountain and any road to be found off mosquito lake road. hit snow at 3200ft on 38. Pretty much followed the summary AU posted.

Offline all Weekend

Sorry I missed you guys. I made the Mosquito Loop and up 38 to the rock pile but didn't think it prudent to head up solo. Had a good ride back to Hwy9 and got to follow a rambunctous Ferrari down 9 to Acme. OMG what a sound bite! Park Rd etc over to Alger, Barrel Springs to Blanchard, Bow and back around the bay to 20 and home. Pics at 11.....Dave

take hwy 20 east to concrete head north on baker lake road, shit load of roads up there, dead ends but incredible views, you'll get a S/SE view of baker , baker lake is glacier-till so blue green , you'll hit snow. brewery on hwy 20

head to lake whatcom blvd, go north to 9, to 542 to Mt Baker , when snow clears it amazing. Artist point, world class views

off chuckanut, cleator road goes 5mi? its north of larrabee . up to over look if san juans, was snowing last I went up.

some fun back roads around maple falls

go to BC, cross at Sumas, go straight north, pick up hwy 7, go right in Mission, big world awaits ahead, harrison hot springs area, but try turning north at sasquatch inn, butt load of FS roads, you can go to whistler from there, not this time of year, snow. it is doable on your bike IF you have aggressive tires and have off road exp and slow down on loose parts, http://www.dualsportbc.com usually has updates on road condition. other wise turn around when it gets shitty. I ran into some GS rider that was hating life, probably could of swapped him straight for my DRZ. you be able to go quite a ways. I've done it on my Guzzi. north of harrison lake is port douglas, caretaker there Andre, cool guy, has a bunch of dogs, cats, likes visitors. will give a tour of ghost camp, bring him something a person in a remote camp does have ( fresh bread? ) he ran out of bug juice so gave him mine. nice guy.

Sunday I thought that I was going to hang with family they left, so I left Woolley at 09:45 and turned off on Mosquito Lake Rd. about 10:10 trying to play catchup. Didn't catch any one but passed a few on the way out[of 38].

I rode up 38 till I got stopped by snow[about 2900']. Cut one little Alder off the road just passed the rock slide. Fun road.
