Map downloads for Aldi Go Cruise

Hi all,

I just acquired a couple of non working Aldi Go Cruise motorcycle GPS units from a rider who had three from Aldi and none of them worked, he returned the last one for a refund but they let him keep the previous two.

It took me 15 minutes of fiddling around to get one of them working, the other one is still dead [batteries will need replacing before I can make any progress on it I think].

I have heard there are sites that have alternative mapping that can be loaded on to these units, has anyone done this?

Also, has anyone successfully loaded mapping that shows fourwheel drive/bush walking tracks or topographical maps?

Options to get similar mapping for my Garmin Nuvi is another thing I'm looking for as well.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Ock.

there's a whole gps section on advrider where this question will get more (and better!) responses...

garmins are set up to allow alternative maps, you can shonky maps which are good for offroad use and free as well. otherwise fork out money for the garmin topo maps... main advantage is these allow auto routing and have all the usual city maps as well.

not too familiar with the aldi but it needs to be cracked and then install oziexplorer maps. google around for more info.

the gps runs on win Ce, so the means all ya have to do is a small hack to allow you to load Ozi Explorer CE , giving you an infinite range of maps pm me for more info before this thread disappears into the modded never never

Thanks B1.

I posted here in the Australian section so that I get "regional specific" responses.

I've tried to get my Garmin to accept additional mapping but haven't managed to get it to download/load so far.

Maybe the Nuvi doesn't take non Garmin downloads [but more likely I just haven't worked it out properly yet].

I may need to take my GPS to someone who has done it before.

The Aldi unit is just something I got to play around with, I didn't think I would actually get it going so quickly so now I'm going to see what else I can do to it- just for fun.
