Why, why, why, take a Ducati, make it maintenance free (relatively) and then make it handle like a Harley? Doh!
I came here to say this.

And the seat sucks.

2005 BMW K1200s

Put a CBR1100XX Engine in the K1200S. Perfect bike. ABS, ESA, handling, stopping.... And in white and blue..... BEAUTIFUL!
BUT transmission, engine and fuel injection were GARBAGE! There outta have been a law against selling a bike like that.

case in point: stock suspension on a 900SS/CR. OK, I know it was designed to be the entry-level bike, but the forks aren't rebuildable. You can replace the springs and change the oil, but that is as far as you can disassemble them- the bottom cap is pressed/welded on. You can't put a cartridge emulator in there if you wanted to.

By that measure, my KLR has better suspension, at least I can muck with it and improve it. (But, it's a KLR, so I don't. Suspension tuning is by adding or removing bricks in the milk crate.)

BMW Stock Seats

BMW stock seats, having owned 4 BMW from a R1150RT to a R1200GSA, I do not know what type of butt the seats are designed for but I know that it is not mine. All 4 bikes have had after market seats install shortly after purchase.

Note to BMW: Sell bikes without seats, we change them anyway.

So Harley should be selling bikes without mufflers. I guess the ability to install (loud) aftermarket pipes on just about any cruiser could be considered a flaw

Really interesting to see all these years later, DR seats are still right up there for being hideous!
replace the seat with a 2x4.
more comfortable and durable.

Replacing the stock seat with a 2x4 on the 650GS twin would improve riding comfort.

My hubby has an 1150RT and the stock seat apparently isn't too bad, at least for him. I can say with authority though that the stock pillion is a 20 minute seat.

I can't understand how they can design and engineer great bikes but completely screw up the seats.

Today I remembered another annoying one about the V-Strom: worst. helmet. lock. ever.

Normally I put my helmet in the top box, but I had too much crap in there today and had to take the f@#king seat off and use a little cable to lock it up. Even TU250s and KLRs have helmet locks FFS. It's an especially odd omission for a bike so popular with commuters.

heated grips

Why don't all bikes come w/ heated grips?

I know most American riders only take their bikes out for an afternoon ride on a 75 degree Sunday but still.

I had a 1998 Triumph Tiger for one year.

Pull the carbs to replace the air filter? Worse yet, the air filter and air box are one piece.

But that's not even the reason I got rid of it. Triumph built an adventure bike and left it hamstrung with sportbike transmission ratios.

I had to excessively slip the clutch in first to pull out, yet at 70 on the hwy it felt and sounded like it was ready to let go. If the bike had a wide ratio transmission it would still be in my garage.

Wee's don't have that side gizmo helmet lock like on the DL1000?
Ahh Ha! So there is a flaw with the 650.
