The best thing about Hartsel:

H.O.B. Cafe & Saloon

Amen to that. I brought a woman I was dating there for lunch and it was so comfortable there that we spent a few hours hanging out and joking around.

nwcolo... Outstanding Craig images. Thanks for posting them. And yes, that last one is noteworthy!

rocker... the HOB in Hartsel is noted in the book. Great buffalo burgers, and great atmosphere, for sure.

My Great Grandfather was killed in JAn of 42 when the Wadge Mine blew up. I grew up a couple miles north of the old company town, learned to ride my first bike on the old town site, a 76 Honda TL 125....

Lewis and Clark were facinated with this same view. The photo was taken on their actual campsite in Oct 1804. There's a sign and marker at the site. Clark stayed at the campsite doing a sketch of the plateau and calculating the latitude. They camped there for 2 days. Lewis and Seaman (his dog) hiked to the top of the plateau. (Took all day).

This site is a little west of Fort Hays.

This was as close as I could get due to not having permision to get to this site. The angle of the dangle is not quite right, and Gardner was a lot closer.
