The unexplored island of Crete, Greece
Crete...
My home, a relatively big island in the Mediterranean sea. ![]() My bike... A silver BMW F800gs which i have from the year 2009. Most of my rides are with my mate yns with his yellow F800gs ![]() This thread will have some of our rides around Crete while we try to discover every part of it. And what we try to discover is far from the touristic part of the island and has mostly dirt roads involved. I bet that even well traveled Cretans will find places they have never thought existed . General information for the island can be found throughout the Internet (for example, WIKIPEDIA) You must understand that English is not my spoken language so be lenient with any mistakes in that chapter. Anyway photos speak an international language so lets start: markas screwed with this post 01-28-2012 at 07:53 AM |

A short ride in Spring
A short ride in Spring
One day around midday i call my buddy yns for a short ride. Plan? No plan. Lets ride and see what comes. Just take a map with us to find any sightseeings. Of course my wife could not say no to something like this. Oh, didn't i mention that she loves off road touring with me two-up? This is me btw studying the map. I must say that i am the planer of the team... ![]() My wife Kiriaki, the photographer of most action photos ![]() While yns does most static ones and captures video.... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Crete is on my bucket list...I'm a hiostory nerd, and want very badly to see the Minoan temples across the islands and the various sites in the mountains...

Not wasting any more time we try to find an archaeological site nearby as seen in the map. On our way we notice two small caves that seem human made. (graves from roman times)
Hmmm, that chapel over there seems to provide some nice view... Lets ride!

Not much to see for the inexperienced tourist of the 2500 year old acropolis but the flowers and the landscape where beautiful
![]() ![]() You might notice that the sky is a bit gray and visibility is low. A common sight here whenever the wind blows from the south strong enough to bring us tons of sand from the Sahara desert across the sea! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

![]() I must warn you... ![]() We LOVE high places with view! ![]() ![]() Normally, we could see the sea from north to south, but the sandstorm wouldn't let us. |

![]() Hmm, what's this? Barely visible we see some huge windmills. Looks nice? Lets go then! Btw, the stone rumble is all whats left of the acropolis.

Many dead ends (again) later, we find what we seek!
This time Kiriaki was in no mood take any action shots, but the ones we took while admiring the scenery are also nice

The dirt road we take is beautiful but a bit hard with many loose stones.

The roads take you sometimes to places you don't even have heard off.
The cave where the unknown Saint Efthimios has lived some time is one of them. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
