You're only getting 3-12 fps.....I think we've found your problem. You need to crank your graphics way back, or get a new video card....

On DSL.

Every now and then I get booted from the server, only to log back in and see my tank a smoldering ruin at the start area

I'm running 40+FPS and 60-80 ping.....not quite max graphics. I can run max graphics, but then my FPS drops into the 20's when things get busy. I prefer to run at 30 FPS minimum and the difference in what you see is not very noticable to get there.

I built mine for less than $1K and that was over 1-1/2 years ago.....you could probably get a hell of a machine for that price now.

Just a soidenote for anyone that doesn't already know....
You can use your mouse scrollwheel to zoom your view in or out.
It works in sattellite mode as well.

I've been playing this for awhile. I did the Russian route and got up to a T-44 and an IS before I burned out. I just started playing again recently and am spending all my time in the light tanks. I find the Tier 1-3 tanks to be a lot more fun now.

A few more people and we're going to have enough to organize a tank company....

Is anybody else having a problem being matched with much higher tier tanks? I didn't notice it until last night, I was the only tier 3 and someone on my side thought I was there because I was platooned with higher level tanks.

Today I was the only tier 4 and there were several tier 8 heavies. I have no chance of surviving in that kind of crowd.

Maybe I need to spend more time hiding, instead of trying to scout.

So far all I've played are light tanks, maybe a tier 4 medium would live longer.

I've read the recent statements about the MatchMaker, and they're a little cagey on exactly how it does that. They say it's not by tier alone, but overall xp, tank upgrades, etc. If an experienced player is slumming a low tier tank, but it's "elite", they may be matched up with more powerful gear that might not be fully upgraded, etc.

There's some kind of point system under the hood they don't discuss fully. So far, I'm okay with it - I would hate to assume I'm going to kick ass every round - for someone to have a great game, there have to be a handful of losers, and I don't mind taking my turn as cannon fodder. More often than not it's because of some stupidly bold thing I tried. A few times it's just bad luck, or a slow load, or just fate grinding me down. If I'm not platooned w/partners, I'll just leave the game and go drive another tank in another battle, and jump around before settling down to a grind. It's the one thing Gold is useful for too, is converting xp from elite tanks towards the progression of a line I'm trying to develop. Call me a wallet warrior, but I blew a wad of xp last night and jumped straight into a tier 4 tank destroyer, down the russian line. Very happy with my choice, had a blast playing it for a couple hours last night.

If we could muster an ADV company, that would rule hard. I would hope more than 3 or 4 of us could use Ventrilo for it, though, because that makes all the difference in the world in battle coordination.

I've adjusted my style a bit. When I see the big dogs, I stay on the porch

I never feel like I'm contributing unless I'm out there mixing it up. I've decided that if the MatchMaker wants to put me in battles with tier 8 heavies I'll practice laying low a bit more.

I agree on the cannon fodder, someone has to do it. Shortly after I started I realized that approximately 75% of all participants die. I just hate dying in the first minute or two.
