Another thing I've slowly learned after ceasing paying for gold or a premium account is to just wait until the tank I want next is on sale. What this means, in the meantime, is playing the tanks you have to get the 75% crews to 100% (makes a big difference), and then to continue training them for whatever skills (there are more coming soon I have read) you think would be handy.

Every tank tier 6 and under comes up for sale eventually.
Can you buy them even if you have not done the reasearch yet. I want a stug...but am still working on my marder.

I found the ADV group yesterday but was not sure how to join in after entering the password....it was down at the bottom of the screen with one guy in the room. I just kept playing public matches.

The Lee sucked but I liked it more than the AMX40 which never gets a good gun or any speed. The Lees top gun is good and as others have pointed out, you need to play it as a TD. It doesn't help that you have that useless turret poking up and making you a bigger target. I love to kill Lees now that I don't drive one.
The T-28 was actually a pretty good tank. Good speed and a nice gun. I almost miss it once I got the big slow KV. I thought the Derp would be cool until you see your ROF is under 3 per minute. Also, they must have nerfed it at some point because it still bounces sometimes, even at close range. I'm using the 122mm for a decent ROF/damage ratio.
I took the US TD branch after the Easy8 (which is a keeper), not sure I did the right thing but the T95 was calling to me. Anyway, the slugger is like an M4 convertible (TD with a turret). I haven't gelled with it yet, after the E8 it is slow and doesn't pen anything, I hear the 90mm will solve that. For now the StuG is way more fun.

The group is just for chat. Someone has to form a platoon to actually play together. We use the chat to work out the details because it's best if the platoon is made up of close to the same tier tanks. The matcher uses the highest tier tank.

I can't wait to get past the Lee.

Home tomorrow It'll be time for tanking.

I wonder how much I've forgotten in the last two weeks.

Good lord, the T-28 is a dog before upgrades! However, in 15 matches, I have every upgrade module but the 85mm researched......

I hear ya. I even got the good gun. It still sucks. I got to play a round with Hodag in his PZKW3 on my team. I died after getting 2 hits on a T28. I really hate the Lee.

Once I grind through it, is the medium line better or should I try the US heavy? I'm close enough to get the M4 by the end of the weekend.

I was playing my sons account a bit with the SU 76 withthe ZiS 3 gun. That was kind of fun. He says it sucked, but I went on and got a 5 kill round while he watched. Pure dumb luck really, but in the yes of a 14 year old, I was awesome for a little while

Favorite tanks are the Pz4 and the Stug. The 3601 I have gets matched up against tier9 tanks, and I can't dent them. I can detrack them, but can't do any damage, even with the 88. So I've taken to following my team's heavies around, trying to get a shot in edgewise to help out. Otherwise, I just hide. Frustrating to hit an IS4 from behind and it doesn't do any damage. One crested a ridge right in front of me last night, exposing half the bottom of the tank. I bounced a shell, he dropped down and one-shot me. Suck.

But the Pz4 is a great long range sniper with the 75mm gun. As I said, I like the Lee. It burns quite nicely.

BTW: this is worth a read. http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Battle_Mechanics

It depends on your own personal skills. Medium lines take a LOT to be effective in when up against the same tier heavies, or higher tier heavies. If you're a tanker who doesn't want to learn and actively play, then slow-moving big-gun heavies are the way to go. Up to, and including, the T32 I thought the American heavy line was wonderful. Yes, even the T1, M6, and ooh-la-la the T29, all sweet. Of course I had brought loads of experience with German and some Russian heavies with me by that point.

Counter that with guys who choose the American heavy line for their first heavy line, and they seem to normally agree that the T1 and M6 suck. Go figure...

If you play your ass off (so unemployed, with a premium account, playing all day, every day), you may be able to research and buy a T34 American heavy before it goes premium.

I'm only now entering the American medium line with the T20, and found it fun and capable - but that's only after always finding it a juicy and easy target with my other tier 7 and tier 8 tanks. So, yeah, I realized how vulnerable it is before I took it out. Look up SpearFisher's stats for the T20 and you can see that that new addition has given me the ability to help my teams get something like a +60% win ratio.

But you just can't go wrong with playing the game on "easy mode" - i.e. using Russian heavies and Russian TD's - if winning or a good time is what you're after.

Yup, just have to find a path through the front without getting killed.

sometimes holding back and waiting till the heavies are hitting each other and then running through works well
