I think it's just something I'll have to deal with. Being tier 9, it's never lower than mid pack and usually near the top. It just can't hang with the big boys yet though. Maybe I just haven't figured out how to play it yet.
Just a suggestion...

It's a medium, and a tier 9, so your team cannot afford to have you hold back and not use its advantages. You need to learn the spots that you can use your speed to overtake, first or with other mediums, to try to fend off the enemy from taking that high ground until your forces arrive to assist. Yes, even if it means you taking a shot in the side as you race up the hill.

In more constricted maps play it like a good M18 or 12T/13 75/13 90 player where you wait for your force to engage, then zoom up the side or behind the engaged heavies to flank and penetrate.

If this isn't your play style, and you don't for-see learning it, medium lines aren't really your forte.

Despite it not being registered as a medium, for all intents and purposes the IS-8 is a medium, and I play it like one. A medium with a tier-ten gun... it kinda works

Until recently all I played were mediums.
I play them more or less as you described and adjust as needed depending on a lot of factors. I think I'm mostly suffering the New tank blues. Moving from a fully researched and maxed out tank to one that isn't, is kind of a kick in the pants. At least it has a good crew. I stole my T20 crew for it. Now my T20 isn't as much fun either(ran out of gold)

Ok, I just played a couple of games to see if I could figure out what was up.
The stock Patton is slow and has a really crappy 90mm. I can't even mount the same 90mm I run on my Pershing yet. I can only pen the tier 8 and below heavies and some tier 9 med unless I get lucky and someone shows me their back side.
I guess I'll have to just suck it up and quit bitching.

I must be getting better cause now my overall W/L ratio is at 54%. "Ace" tanker in my 85 (whatever that means) and it's W/L ratio is a bit higher.

Wish I had the time to play this game before the dreaded 5pm eastern retardo-time started.

Inching ever closer to the SU-152. Looks like it's gonna have to be a semi-assault TD becasue it looks as if the gun on it is horribly inaccurate. Had a good run last night, inebriated and i kicked some major butt with my TD's. Usually the alcohol backfires on me.

I hit that same wall recently.

For the first time since when I was a noob I decided to use gold to convert XP over to get my IS-8 very close to the upgraded tier-ten gun. The bonus was that the tier-ten IS-4 I had also needed the same gun researched, so it was sorta a double-deal.

I just couldn't bare to play a gimped high tier tank (tier 9 or tier 10) anymore... I've played too many gimped lower tiers in the long build-up to get to that level, and having to face dumb losses all over again just wasn't making me happy at all.

Maybe since it's a high tier tank, you might think about the same if you have read on the forums that it is much better when fully upgraded (and I don't know if it is).

If it makes you feel any better, the kiddies are now out of school. For the summer just consider it "retardo-time" 24/7, and I suggest that ya just try to play your best with a good platoon-mate.

Whew...
I finally managed to get enough exp to upgrade my Patton suspension.
That allowed me to mount at least the good 90mm that I have on my Pershing, and a rammer. could only run the vent class and stock gun without it.
I only played one game like that, but it was much better.
Hopefully, I can fix my win %. It's 36%(13-23).

I didn't have much extra exp to convert, or gold, but I used it. The way things were going, it likely saved me 10 or 15 lost games.

I had a really fun battle in Ensk with the M26 where I actually remembered to do hit and run instead of slugging it out. I was at the very bottom too....in a tier 8 medium fully outfitted

The next battle was Mountain Pass, we started at the south and a SU152 was guarding the bridge, and a Priest was running top cover on the hill. There was my self, a KV-1, and a T49 trying to cross. The SU152 would shoot then back up. We would all try to shoot back then hide. I got sick of it and when he shot one time, I charged across the bridge, picked off the Priest at the top, took a hit to the side but tracked and flanked the SU152, killed him, a VK3601 and an AMX12t that I didn't know was there.

I had a few battles where both sides had 4-5 artys too.

Have you played the other mediums lines at all? I've started both the German and the American, but am wondering if I should stop being dumb and just go for the nationality that always gets good tanks - the USSR.

...And now they're going to add tier 10 Med.
Not that I'm complaining. It's going to take a long time to fully research the Patton anyway.
We need to platoon up. I've been grinding the Patton to get the tier 9 105.
It's much easier now that I have the 90 mm Gun T15E2M2.

I was seeing a lot of arty lat night too. Had a couple of games where they were spot on. They concentrated fire wonderfully and had high hit%. Anyone on the other team that got spotted was a deader. It helped they we all advanced slowly so they had time. I don't recall what tank I was in, but there were at least two time I stumbled across something to big for me to handle and the arty pounded the crap out of them. It was pretty awesome to watch.
They must have been platooned, because most of the time their shells hit at the same time.

Only other thing on special this weekend is 1/2 price and double credit earnings on the Churchill. Pretty worthless special if you ask me.
