Xr4. I bought it titled, and re-butchered the previous dual sport setup. With a stator, 2 mirrors, all blinkers, a DOT head light w/high beam, brake lights, horn, and a comfy seat, this is more of a feisty 21-yo than a barely legal dual sport.

In fact, today I took her to Starbucks

Which one do you like better? Why? I thought both of them are almost similar...

-- 4 stroke vs 2 stroke
-- magic button on the WR...
-- what else?

Yes the WR has the magic button.
As far as comparisons go it I can break it into 2 parts.
Suspension: As you can see on the KDX the front end is not stock. It is from a 2003 KX 250 and has been re sprung and re valved by W.E.R. The rear is stock but has also been re valved by W.E.R

As far as I know the WR is all stock.
I am still playing with the settings on the KDX but I would have to say that the WR wins on suspension which is awesome if it is bone stock.

The difference in motors:
As you can imagine the KDX has a lot of power at the slightest flick of the wrist but without a power band like most 2 strokes and is easy to tractor around just off idle but still responds quickly.
The WR has a slightly higher compression piston than stock and is very smooth but can take you by surprise as it gets into the upper rpm.

I havent weighed the 2 but the WR seems lighter when it comes to dragging it around and also in flick-ability on the trail.

If you want something fast and easy to ride right out of the box I would have to recommend the WR. I have spent a lot of money on the KDX's suspension and still don't feel as "comfortable" as I do on the WR.
That being said the KDX was purchased for $800 in stock trim, $300 for the front end $650 for the R&R at W.E.R. and about $150 into the used FMF exhaust.
I traded my wife's 97 KLR650 for the WR but see them go for about $2200.

Obviously the rebuild for the KDX is cheap and easy to do yourself while the WR can get pricey and a bit more involved.

I hope that helps.

Thanks for the detailed response.

The WR weighs 232 lbs vs 222 lbs for the kdx and the seat height is 36+ on the KDX and 39+ on the WR, which was a big factor for me due to my 30 inch inseam.

I ended up buying a KTM 200 EXC which will be plated soon...

Seems like the WRs and KDXs are cheaper than in my area...did you buy them street plated or did you convert them? If the price you quotes were for street legal ones, then it is a steal...

1997 KTM 250 exc 2 stroke. Non dot tires. due to the small out put of the stator you can only use blinkers if bike is reved up and then the headlight dims with each flash of the blinker. horn works some times, no key toggle to switch. Its inspected and plated has now expired cali green sticker no need to renew since the bike is in Texas now.

The KDX has no title, I need to have someone run the VIN and fill out the Vermont DMV form and send it in for a plate.
WR was street plated when I got it.

Both bikes are plated and insured. Going singletrack riding this weekend. I can hardly wait!

Cheers!

My crf 230 is in the process of getting dual sported. I already have the plate, just need tail/brake light, and headlight then hand signals for turns.
