re: your second question

Goodness gracious, I would not attempt to commute from Stuart/Jupiter daily to FTL. That would take 20 years off anybody's life.

There are plenty of nice neighborhoods within Fort Lauderdale that will have you close to work, shopping and the beach.

One thing to ask about wherever you decide is homeowners insurance. That can be pretty difficult to get. Expect to grab ankles.

My suggestion....don't go. Lived there for many years and the place is cesspool of humanity. Going from out west to Florida is going to be a major let down. Florida is nothing more than.....God's Waiting Room.

The stats are in...

Just did a short review of the 2011 FBI stats for crime % and the interesting thing is...

ViolentCrime - AggravatedAssault - PropertyCrime - Burglary - Larceny - VehicleTheift
FTL 0.45 - 0.22 - 2.99 - 0.87 - 1.95 - 0.17
SLU 0.32 - 0.19 - 3.24 - 0.43 - 2.45 - 0.35

Other areas that were within 1-2% difference are not posted.

FTL has more crime against another person where SL,UT has more property crime.

Interesting...

Stuart and Weston

I lived in Palm City near Stuart for five years. Bought five acres and had a nice house built......then I got a job offer in Miami I could not refuse. I commuted for five years to Miami via car, train, and shuttle bus. Stuart is too far north of FLL to be considered. There is more traffic now than when I commuted. Weston is still your best bet IMHO.

For good schools and rental homes Weston is quite nice. The commute over I-595 to/from Ft.L is another matter entirely...Hopefully the rebuild stays ahead of schedule on that project...

The reply...

I have received a base salary offer as part of my "Primary Selectee" packet that is not worth the pain to pack everything up and head to FTL, so I responded with a, "Now this will get my attention $$$" amount.

Just waiting on the pre-selecting supervisor to pick themselves off the floor and his the "OK" button...

More to follow -

You are getting your first real clue. In keeping with what the the 'anti' people
here have mentiond. Look at Indeed.com or the Palm Beach Post for salary comps.
15.00 an hour is what an average degree gets in FL. 15.00 an hour was
HUGE when I was there. Look for stuff relating to job transience too . . .
There is a reason no one stays.
Anecdotally, its not an area I would choose to raise kids in. A weird
confluence of all the worst stuff . . . Lots of bad schools, racial disharmony,
extreme mall-materialism culture. Totally autocetric non-walkable 'towns' that
you cannot tell apart if you tried. If you might want your kids to learn diversity and
appreciation of cultural stuff, respect, etc, you wont be getting any help from their
community. There is no "It takes a Village" mentality.

Regardless of what you decide, I wish you the best.

Moved - To Alaska

Thanks to all how gave advice.

In the end, the job and pay did not make it worth while.

I did take a job in Alaska that covered moving expenses and a greater chance of a promotion.

Thanks again for all the input provided!
