I rode Moab last weekend. The conditions were great. (maybe a bit dry) The La Salles looked snowed in though. The Koko should be great except the last little bit might be snowed in. Here is a thread with some pics

Matt looking at the track on Google it looks like you are starting in Loma but I think this section is bicycle only. My thinking is that we will have to take Hwy 6 to the 6-50 reservoir road and follow the dirt roads to the underpass on I-70. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

I'm not Matt, but I'm very familiar with the Kokopelli and you're right.

Here's the route I use and suggest, it's the same one you're talking about. -

Thanks guys. I've updated the file and removed the error at the beginning of the route. I've also added two tracks 1) the "top of the world" plus 2) "sand flats bypass". None of these are my tracks personally, but are provided so guys can load the tracks up to follow if they wish. No guarantee there won't be other adjustments along the way. Just a reference point.

Has anyone looked at the Kokopelli up high recently? Id be very surprised if you can get through due to snow.
Onion creek is a great way to bail out if access is denied due to snow.

Hey Greg@RME - what do you think? Opinions from a local are always the best!

I would think it's still got snow, honestly... but I haven't been up there recently.

There is still plenty of snow up on Glade Park (above GJ) and it's lower than the La Sal portion of the Koko. Weather has been in the 70's though, so I'm sure the snow is melting fast, which means mud. And when the La Sal portion of the Koko gets muddy, it's a mess.

If you rode up the Hideout Road to North Beaver Mesa and found the La Sals not passable, it would be quite a bit of backtracking. If I can get any trail beta on the La Sal portion, I will report back here.

I'm thinking hard about making this ride, wanted to ride this weekend, but it's not falling into place.

If there's room for 1 more, count me in...

If anyone is interested in doing more research on the Kokopelli, myself and a friend did a loop riding from Moab to Fruita and back to Moab using the Koko for the 2nd part of the trip. There are plenty of photos, so you can see what you'll be riding. There is also a GPX track of our ride there.

My friend is leaving for the Kokopelli on Monday....and riding all the way to Moab. I will call his cell mid-week and get the latest and greatest.

But....It has been hot the last several days....and the forecast for the next week looks really good. Even if it snows up high on Monday and Tuesday, it should be melted by Friday with the higher temps at the end of the week. Looks like we have an awesome forecast for the weekend!!!!
