Heroes Legend Rally 2012-Classic Paris Dakar

This years Heroes Legend Rallye will start from Montaban,France, and end in Lac Rose,Dakar 2 weeks later.
It is a roadbook rally organised for all types of bikes,cars,2 or 4WD and trucks.
The organisation, and especially Ann Marie, have done a spectacular job organising this event, especially given the fact that most governments will not issue Visas for travelling through Mauritania, due the the localised Al-Queda terrorist problem in the country.
We have 12 riders going with Desert Rose Racing from the UK as our assistance support team, with their new Dakar truck.
Most are on Rally-Raid Products kitted-out KTM 690 Enduros, with our Rally Tank & Fairing kits, along with other special parts.

Scrutineering

The first day was Technical Inspection & Scrutineering for all competitors, mainly checking passports, visas, and insurance for the riders, then a fitting the new Dakar-style GPS supplied by TDCom,along with the E Track satellite tracking system.
The new GPS will only show the arrow to the next waypoint when within 800m radius, then you must get to within 200m for it to validate the waypoint,at which point it show the direction & distance to the next waypoint, but dissapears from view once 800m from the waypoint. This is to make the riders more reliant on the roadbook,ICO & CAP headings,so it is more technical than previous events.
The E track has an emergency button that can notify the Organisation that you need helicopter recovery, and can be used to live track each competitor whilst on the piste each day.
In the evening the town laid on a fantastic meal for all compeitors, and a video show of Dakar stages previous.
Everyone was off to bed early for the Prologue in the morning before the mammoth 1200 km(750 mile) liason to Spain for the fery to Morrocco.

Prologue Day 1

After a short ride to the Prologue, which was a single 4 km lap as a promo for the event and a thank you to the local town for supporting the event,we loaded all the bikes into the trucks for the 1200km liason to Almeria,Spain, for the ferry to Morrocco.
This was done, because our original plan to ride down all together on the road was cancelled to to severe weather warnings for southern spain.Only 1 rider braved the terrible conditions, and UK rider,Nick, completed the mammoth trek in 18 hours,non-stop,apart from coffee & fuel stops,on his trusty KTM 640 LC4,a true IRONMAN.
When we arrived near Almeria at midnight that same day, there were terrible floods and mudslides, which killed 10 people that day.We grabbed 6 hours sleep before arriving at Almeria port in the morning for the ferry to Nador,Morrocco.
