will there be a one or more of the following:

rocks
mud
dirt
sand
whoops
large hills
and other obstacles

that are a serious impediment to "adventure" bikes when following sean?

sounds fun, where do i sign?

Just so we are clear, the aforementioned ride was the day after I got the Tigger and so I was on stock tires, with NO 'protection' at all. I still have stock tires (too cheap to replace them until they are worn out which they are close to being - damn they wear well) so I don't plan on doing anything too adventurous...

mmmm I guess I could ride the XR....

mud depends on rain fall , but potentially some long ruts and shallow puddles

sand not really
whoops no
large hills long steady up hill climb not real steep
and other obstacles road kill , possible tree branch, 4-6" tall log crossing

As advertised in the beginning of the thread there are really no organized routes laid out , basicly everone is on their own for the day , we all meet back up at the end of the day around the fire to swap stories .

I will be leading a smallish group around but want to keep that group small , as large groups are a chore to manage for the day .

I have made some suggestions for general directions to head in search of dirt roads and such , Mapsource shows a lot of dirt roads in the general area , and the mass gazzeteer has it as well .

I will say that old florida road is not passable on an adv bike and not even sure I would give it a go on a full on dirt bike .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=YTIdrMg3rPg

you can veiw other videos as well, plus the water hole at the top of the road is hood deep in some places ie over the handle bars .

old wendell road is an up hill challange if you take it south to north though not near what old fl. rd is and I wouldn't attempt it on anything larger than a klr , and even then you should have full on knobbies and a pocket full of tallent . take it north to south and it is a long down hill , slightly easier to manage but again not on a big bike unless you have tallent and knobbies

http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ba...ed=0CCgQ8gEwAA

group ride leaders are always hard to come by but there is going to have to be a few more, hopefully someone from the area to show around some of those from a far.

actually it would be a very serious challenge. i've seen it. up close and in person. allow me to bring my camera whilst you attempt it - any bike of your choice (none that are mine though!). i'd recommend a trials bike.

in regards to a route - i may put together something that encompasses south western vt. there are some very good and 'doable' roads in the area. full knobs, love for rocks and hill climbs are a must.

Damn, all this talk about challenge makes me want to leave the 650 at home and come on the KLR250 with knobbies... If it is anything like the trails here, it would be fun
I watched two of the youtube videos on Florida Rd and it looks just like the stuff around here.

Really looking forward to this, but nervous about the first long ride with the KLR. I don't know if the doohickey has been done, and I haven't taken it more than a few miles. I guess I am going to have to put a few miles on it next week - how painful - :)

Gary, when you heading up? We could try to hook up for the ride if you want to have some company "just in case" something happens . I'd like to leave early enough to do a little exploring along the way or have time to do some when we get there. Not talking the Butt-Crack of dawn, probably mid-morning from here, at the latest though...
