I never read the whole report! So I don't know of the trouble spots or dead ends. I do know that I rode from Truckee to Old Station in one day (days 7 and 8 for them) and it wasn't that hard. There was one spot where we got 'lost' on some Sierra Pacific Industries land. We just couldn't make link the GPS route to the roads we were on. Eventually, using the GPS, we were wble to make things connect and ride on out. Maybe 30 minutes lost. We also rode it in June of 2011 and there was a TON of snow. We lost alot of time in the Gold Lake area. Maybe another 90 minutes or more. And also, as it gets later in the day you can always hop out to the road at one of the very many crossings and make up some miles. The fires, now that may be another issue. Using the PCQ maps and fire maps from the internet, it looks like the section from Quincy to lake Almanor and the section of Hwy 89 through Lassen park could be in question.

Be ready for some hot dry weather in central Oregon. We are having one of worst summers as far as rain goes in sometime. Lots of dusty trails and roads. All we can do is hope some of the thunder storms drop a lot of rain and not much lightning. We have already had over a million acres burn here. Grim. Riding will still be fun, just dusty.

Don't think I missed it from earlier in the thread - anyone riding out from Salt Lake City? Any interest joining up?
Could also meet in Idaho somewhere. RMRichar screwed with this post 08-23-2012 at 12:48 PM |

Fire Closures
There are several current and past fires in California, Oregon and Nevada that may get in the way of your route planning.
You can go to: http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/index.php# click on incident http://inciweb.org and search by incident name if you know it, or by state. http://cdfdata.fire.ca.gov/incidents/incidents_current A partial list of closures, check the areas you want to ride through. These block some of th eroutes I was looking into. The "Reading" fire has closures of all off road north of Lassen Nat Park to Old Station The "Chips" Fire has closures from the Sierra crest to Lake Almanor north of hwy 70. The "Rush" Fire is in north east CA, east of 395 and may block routes coming from NV.

(let me know if I got syntax wrong on your screen names, so PMs will be easy for me) I think this large group (and more!) will be manageable enough, I know my route well, and will have tried & true actual GPS (GPX/Garmin) tracks. I think we'll likely split into 5 or so groups, with a leader for each, ...to keep the caravan (bikavan?) moving more efficiently. We'll get to the KTM Rally Thursday Evening when Registration starts. I have a VERY close-by forest dispersed campspot picked out, ...so we can get back there early-ish Friday morning ![]() Oh yeah..... WetFest is the weekend before, and several of us plan to leave from Wenatchee on Sunday. We'll take portions of the WABDR down to Hood River, then get to my place early Tuesday evening for a relaxing BBQ and a campfire. ...Then We'll leave Wednesday morning for the dirty two-day trip to Bend
