Queretaro

QUERETARO ...so far I like it a lot , even if I miss the food from Puebla ...
Big pedestrian area with a lot of nice plazas

Beautifull churches

Rivers in the center of the city

Cactus growing on rooftops...

And roof terraces with view on sunsets like this one

I really need to retire

I think if you had asked me to drop down for fresh fish Nikki would have been missing me for a few days! Between you and Mike it's bound to happen one of these days! Haha

I'm keeping Nikki updated and showing her the pictures. I'm pretty sure an extended Mexico bike trip is moving up towards the top of our bucket list!

I'm keeping things semi flexible for May to ride west whenever you get up this way.
Ride safe!

Ok back to work now

Nikki doesn't have to miss you, just take her along ;-)

Yesterday morning I left Queretaro for Jalpan de Serra in the Serra Gorda Quereterana. A spectacular ride with hundreds off turns, high cliffs, amazing view, first climbing all the way up into the cool mountains of Pinal de Amoles and from there descending to the real hot(37C) town of Jalpan.
There I stopped for some quesadillas con carne and the waitress after seeing my bike told me, that she and her fiancé are planing a bike trip for theyr honeymoon .
From Jalpan I kept on going towards Xilitla in the Sierra Huasteca Potosina. More curves and views, it started to get greener and a little cooler.
Xilitla, Pueblo Magico, is famous for the Casa del Ingles Loco, the house of the crazy English man.
There is something strange about this town...but it's quiet and different. It is like one of those sleepy towns, described so many times by Garcia Marquez.
As soon as I get time and a decent Internet connection, I will post some pics.

Sierra Gorda

Like I said , an incredible ride yesterday ...

Some 50 km after Queretaro I came through Bernal and its famous mountain , Penia de Bernal

After a little while and roads like this ...

...I came to heavens door (puerta del cielo)....

and once I was in heaven it only kept getting better ....

and better ....

Once getting closer to Xilitla , there was more vegetation and everything got greener and a litlle bit cooler

Xilitla

Xilitla is a strange place. Even if the first impression is the one of an ugly town

with a lot of strange buildings

and strange streetlights

and even the church tower is strange

you just have to walk around long enough and you find also a different angle,

narrow and VERY steep streets

and colorfull houses

and of course the house of Sir Edward James, the crazy Brit that made Xilitla famous

And then of course, food everywhere

Sir Edward James , Xilitla

I have seen a lot of crazy things all over the world , but what Sir Edward James did here in the jungle of Xilitla is a completely different league . This british millionaire created a surrealistic town , or just a toghether of huge sculptures...none of it finished , apparently intentionally unfinished...I don't know how to describe it , and with my poor english and very little knowledge of art , I would probably not help anybody by trying it
I hope my pics speak clearer then I do

More Xilitla

Just a few more pics from Sir Edwards garden

He apparently was obsessed with stairways, some of them just going nowhere , some just going up and then down again on the other side of nowhere...

An other highlight of his garden is the waterfall and the natural pools and how he "decorated" it
