APRILIA TUONO: Gender Reassignment Surgery - - - - - -

Yep, after two trips through Mexico and lots of daily commuting I'm going to cut up my 2005 Aprilia Tuono. I'm getting inspiration from the bikes the Icon1000 guys are building and from this forum. Sort of Mad Max meets dual sport, but this wasteland warrior will have 6 speeds, 130 horsepower and a redline of 10k.

Starting with this...

Continental TKC80s arrived in the mail yesterday...

Inspired by these...

Single 7" headlight in-hand, front MX fender on order, TAG Metals bars on order.

Seat to be recovered, will build crash bars and custom rear rack to replace pillion seat, ammo can panniers...

Super quickie mockups, thinking about paint. The color will be matte.

The logo I want to use. Yes, it steals the Z from the Opel logo.

Do a lot of drugs , do ya? The only decent looking mutilation in your pix is the Dirtster , the rest are just depressing. Did you save the parts from your surgery in a jar?

I guess it would be lots of people on this site doing the drugs. Most of those are builds from this site.

The naysayers found your thread already. It's your bike. Build what makes you happy.

Can't wait to see what you make.

Here is an abomination that I built. Build goals were: "spend as little as possible".

I like the logo and the brighter green paint. I'm excited to see how you bike turns out.

I love the concept.
Personally I would go even farther towards dual sport/enduro but that is what makes us all individuals.
I would really like to do an Aprilia dual sport. Basically build an Aprilia RSV powered Adv bike similar to a KTM 950/990 but with what I believe to be a much better powerplant.

I have had almost all nay sayers on my build. I also posted it on bmwsporttouring forum and it was like a fart in church over there.... People were almost mad at me for cutting up a decent condition BMW R1100RT.

Rock on.

Build that baby! I think the Tuono is a great basis for a dirt blaster. Get the right forks on there and add a spoke 19"! The changes to steering angle are desirable for less twitchy steering feedback.

I am with SHJ.
I would seriously want to put different forks and a 19" front wheel. Pretty easy swap. I would bet you could find a set of forks {ktm likely} that would slip right into those triple clamps. Then just find a hub and have a 19" ring laced onto it.

With a little searching you may even be able to just find lower legs for those forks to swap in that are leading link. That should give you room for the 19" wheel and settle down any twitchiness off the tarmac.
