So I've been in Fairbanks for about a month now, finally got out to do some riding out of town a few days ago.
![]() ![]() ![]() Sometimes you just get lucky when you're grabbing a picture. ![]() Some forest roads near town ![]() I'm going to work on condensing this story into a more manageable form for submissions to a couple MC mags maybe. RoadRUNNER seems to be the most obvious choice at the moment, others? Don't know yet, still thinking about it. As for whats next... I don't know. Depends if I decide to replace the WRX at the end of summer with a new motorcycle (which means saving all summer to buy a motorcycle and working all winter to save for another trip) or if I'm just going to keep the old girl going and keep riding. Ideas include riding down to Baja and messing around for a month or three, just hanging out in the PNW for a while as thats where my dad will probably be living by then, staying up here for a winter to get the 'full' experience, or trying to work down on the gulf coast or keys. Or Europe. My dad and I have briefly talked about taking a trip together next year too, which could be anything from a road trip to hiking the AT (his idea, surprisingly!).

WAY TO GO DAVE,so glad to know you are there and all is going well with healthy , jobs, happiness, etc.
So many of us have enjoyed your RR, the pics, the way we can see things through your descriptions of conditions/events. I look forward to your experiences there , there are some of the most awesome people in the world there in AK. Wife and I had a super time there on our trip. Ride warm/dry , we have seen by your pics you know how to ride on those snow roads. Paul will be looking for you on his next TUK trip. ![]() Vaya Con Dios, gale |

Great Stuff Dave
Keep updating, I'm following along @ home while recovering from cage crash. To All - Wear ur gear - was done in Dominican Republic & witnessed a stoppie crash, 5' from my group, no gear on of course, including no helmet! Guy was not bleeding, but his head took a large hit. Later found out he was OK - very lucky indeed. Rhino Out

Thanks for sticking with the report. Just now got to read the last 3 pages, been away, no internet stuff for almost 2 weeks.
Glad to hear you made it. I never doubted you would, though

Man! I am in awe of what you have done. Very inspiring. After a few months of lurking here, I finally had to register and tell you so. You have the courage I only dreamed about at your age. I'm a *bit* older now. On second thought, maybe it's only in recent years that I dream of having that courage.
A buddy sent me a link to something on ADVRider a few months ago and I started poking around. Your report of the Eastern TAT ride was the first thing I really remember from here and it was the initial inspiration for my finally buying my WR two weeks ago. Of course, the reports from HighFive and BigDog were also part of the reason for getting the WR versus something else. I should add that I never really rode motorcycles until last summer, so I'm a complete rookie. Next time you come through Salida I hope you'll let me know. Funny: I actually heard second hand and well after the fact (from the same buddy above), about the case of beer Ramz had for you ... some story about some advrider coming through here. None of it registered in my head at time, not until I read it on this ride report. Good luck with the Alaska adventure. JT |

I found this thread while trying to tame my wood for the wr250r. Thanks for sharing your trip. At one point in Canada I believe you said the bike was running like crap. Did I miss it or did you find something wrong or did it just clear itself up?
