Seems to me I remember you said you were a 4 or something like that. That post pretty much confirms it.

The red ones are there for a reason. Look what happened to Anika Sorenstam (spelling???) when she tried to play the MEN in the PGA circuit

The lovely Anika hits it about as far as Corey Pavin or Fred Funk - 270+. She can play the tips just fine. She's good enough to cash a check most of the time on the men's PGA tour, but probably not good enough to win on anything other than the short tight courses. One hell of a player. Michelle Wie, that sweet 6' 16 year old out of Hawaii hits it 300+. She'll be able to play with anybody when she grows up.

Those red ones should be the choice of most amateur men. Ego gets in the way though.

too many bad men amateur golfers refuse to go up to the reds. that's why you are seeing four sets of tees on new courses. even old courses are retro fitting to four tee boxes.

my home course we have green, white, blue, gold

It's still all about getting up and down from around the green. That part of the amateurs' game hasn't improved at all from what I can see.

Don't know about his course but most courses it's about 20 yards. The tips could be 30-40 if the course has pretensions of hosting a tournament.

There is a course I play up here that only 6700 yards from the back tees. It plays about 5200 from the reds, 5800 from the white, 6400 from the blues.
Now don't get me wrong that course is a bitch from any set of tees. Fairway and green and hazards, OB and lots of trees. Many courses are " spray and play" or target. The target are genearally much tougher to play.
