Looking to replace my stock tires on the KLR and am looking at Kenda K270. I know they are not as fancy or high-priced as some rubber, but they seem to have a decent rep.
Thoughts?

I know I can do them myself but I need a break from wrenching.
Bob you can get them done @ Epic in longmont. You might want to check with their prices too.. as often they'll match mailorder and that way you can just get the entire thing done with them.

Great suggestion. I forgot all about them. That's what happens when you own a Wee Strom for a long time - you forget where the bike shops are.

I know a lot of people like them, I've never tried any.

In the dirt they are actually pretty decent for what they are. I hated them on the street, and found them very unpredictable in corners.

A "friend" of mine once got written up for 24 points on an XR500. He had non-DOT tires, but none of the points were for that detail.

I never thought a single tire change could make such a difference - amazing tire.

So do they cut your license up twice in that case?

If he pleads out to half points they'll only cut it up once.

Stopped in at Epic today and got what seems like a good quote on a set of Kenda 270's for 50/50 riding. Their mechanic is also familiar with the carb setup on my XT so I'll be leaving the bike with them for a bit.
I'm told that they expect to me moved to a new location near hwy. 52 and I-25 by the first week of April.

I put the K270 on my XR400 that I rode to Copper Canyon from El Paso, it held up really well on that bike - but I chunked one pretty good on an XR650R so I haven't used them again.

That same XR400, which was minimally street legal - was the only bike I've had the tires checked for DOT when I got pulled over. Despite the plate he was sure the bike was not street legal - but it was (barely), so I got pulled over.

I was perusing this thread again - the TE needs tires before a trip to the desert in a few weeks.

I really like those tires on my KLR. The biggest complaint I have heard is related to noise.

"He" was able to plea down to a pair of fours. Something about the officer not being able to make a positive identification thru riding gear.

Stop by Epic and get a quote from them. It's a good shop and a local business.

Nice.. glad "he" got to hang on to the license. I have to go in next Tues to fight at speeding ticket I picked up on US-36 last month. I already have one on the record from a few years ago, trying to keep from getting my rates jacked with two. I've heard there's a good chance you can plea down with the prosecutor if you actually show up to fight it.
