On the Road to Mexico and the American West
I left Asheville, NC 2 days ago and I am headed for Yaviza and then back up to California and then back across the continent home! All in all I believe the trip will last three to four months.
Today I stopped at Moton Field in Tuskegee, AL to view the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site. ![]() From there I rode on to Selma and saw the bridge where Bloody Sunday occurred. ![]() ![]() I will write more late, but I am wasted tired and just wanted to get this thread started while I had Wi-Fi. On to Louisiana and Texas!

I jumped on the Natchez Trace to Natchez, MS. The Natchez Trace is like the Blue Ridge Parkway except it was not very curvy and there were not a lot of pullouts. The speed limit was 50 and there was no traffic. The weather was perfect. It was one of those days where you were not cold or hot.
![]() In Natchez I crossed the Mississippi River and rode through the flat Louisiana farmland to my father's boyhood home of Jena, LA. ![]() While riding through the delta region I saw graves with concrete covers. They are to keep those resting in peace resting in peace. Got to keep them in the ground when it floods! ![]() Then it was on through the bayou. For some reason an old Creedence Clearwater song kept running through my head. ![]() Then I proceeded to get lost! Damn GPS! I swear I never got lost until I started using a GPS. I rode the back roads of Louisiana and somehow wound up in Shreveport, LA. That is only an hour from my home in Longview but I was kaput and had told my family I would arrive tomorrow. I'm going to spend a week visiting family and then on to Big Bend to see if they got that Boquillas crossing open yet! I am getting a little worried though. Those of you that have read my other ride reports know that rain figures into them a lot. So far, beautiful weather!! Keep your fingers crossed!!!!

I rode many of those same roads two weeks ago on my freeway avoidance tour from Florida to Colorado. Natchez was beautiful and I wish I'd been able to spend more time in the old quarter of Natchitoches.
Happy trails.

![]() I made the ride from Shreveport, LA to my hometown of Longview, TX. Of course, the thing we did after I arrived at my sister's house was to go out for Mexican food. Still on the list is BBQ, chicken fried steak, catfish, and probably more BBQ and Mexican for good measure. There will probably not be a lot to report this week other than the eating. I'll lose weight later! Going to stay here until next Sunday and then head out for Big Bend.

Texas Cookin'
This pretty much describes what I have been doing the last couple of days. You have to remember that I am a Texas ex-pat and don't get back here often. I gotta eat Texas cookin' when I can!!

The good thing about eating in Texas is that there is never a line at the salad bar. Macaroni and cheese count as a vegetable here!
