The Pillion warning the rider before getting on is kinda important!
Don't ask me how I know!

Ooh. Is she still speaking to you?
(or, rather, vice versa)

Day 4: 3/14/12 Total mileage 246
Part 1 - Panamint Springs - Swansea Grade - Salt Tram Summit Station - Cerro Gordo - S5 - back to Panamint, continued

Heh.
Making that train video was fun.

The road, she keeps on on giving...

That must be the graded road that comes in from Keeler...

It approaches Cerro Gordo from the other side...

We're almost there...

Here it is!

Let’s see - make a right to go into Cerro Gordo...

Or make a left and keep riding...
Hmmm...

!!!

And, this is the closest we got to Cerro Gordo...

I hope you guys aren’t too disappointed, but we didn’t actually go into the ghost town.
We were having too much fun riding and didn’t want to stop.

It’s nice to leave something for someone else to write about...
I had pretty much blown my history wad back at the Salt Tram, anyway.

In case you’re curious about Cerro Gorodo, I found some reading for you, here ...and... here.

Another great road. There’s no shortage of them in this loop...

I made sure to get a photo if this marker.
“S5” wasn’t on our map but it was super fun.

Now that I’m looking on google, I haven’t been able to find mention of S5 anywhere.
Here’s the area - maybe it was S88?

We stayed to the left...

BigWan thought it was time for another video...He was having good flow...

Nice call!
This was such a fun wash - we had a blast! (this video is much better than the train one - not nearly as rough)

Um. Still using a soundtrack from the 90s, though...

Oh yeah, we had an almost-washout at the 1:45 mark.
Scary!
You can hear us laughing our asses off at how close it was...(and that's why you can't slow down in the sand )

Woooo!

More de-knobbing Grrr.

And, we’re back on the slab...

This was an incredible ride - it was fun, beautiful, fast, with tons of variety.
Definitely up there with some of our best riding.

I don't know if she'll ever see this, but...

Thank you, Sharron!!
We never would have done this loop if you hadn't mentioned it.

Oh, here - I found this page, with tons of info about the Swansea Grade/Cerro Gordo.
Lots of road details (for jeepers) and photos.
Hey, there’s the picture of the steps at the beginning of Swansea Grade...
clicky!

It's probably going to be snowed in for a while, but if you ever get a chance, make sure you do Swansea Grade and visit the Salt Tram station.

Schoolbus!

Kelly,

I can't believe how many of these roads that Matt is able to travel on with that "schoolbus" of yours with all of the gear and you on too! That's really some talent to say the least. I'm really enjoying the adventure so thanks for taking the time for the great RR and photos.

Thanks too for the link to the road reports. I've already been using it quite a bit and am finding it real handy.

Stay safe,

Gary

I really enjoyed your RR

I just finished reading your ride report, I really liked it. This is my first big wan / little wan experience. I really enjoyed your flare, all the videos and sound bytes and links. Really cool. Good job!

Wait, you guys - don't go anywhere...
You're not getting off that easy!

I still have more report to inflict upon you (titus canyon, goler wash, mengel pass, the kilns, the goldfish, plus the ride home).

BigWan and I are out of town for a couple days...

We're going riding tomorrow (on our little bikes).
Matt's going to ride with his brother, I'm going to ride with our 7 year old nephew.
It's gonna be muddy and gross -

Hope you're all having a great weekend, see you back here on tuesday

This is a great report LittleWan. Can't wait for what's next. Between your report and Larryboys reports, I realize the many areas of DV that are calling me back for further exploration.
Thanks!
